The most familiar name (there are many) for corn beads is Job's Tears. It is native to Africa. I'm very interested to learn how they came to be important to the Cherokee peoples because it is not a native species. (I had assumed, incorrectly, that it was native to the American plains.) Was it adopted during the time of Christian missionaries? I know that rosaries are made of the beads. You can buy them from amazon.

Love the intro with your hen. Mama used to dig dust holes in the chicken yard for the hens. They absolutely loved scratching through the dirt for juice worms and then dusting themselves off for mites and to cool off. She and Dad grew sunflowers and would toss a dried seed head to the chicken once in a while for a treat.
