Hi Opie! That must be a very small variety as the spacing of the rows seem very close. The farmers go about 24" to 30" on the sweet corn rows around here, and the corn fills that up right away. I went 36" on my last corn, and that got about 12' tall — but that was an heirloom milling corn. It will be interesting to see this corn in action!
Nice job on the corn planting. I plant alot of corn. I space them one foot by one foot. It does very well with that spacing. Keep us updated.
You better bet that old straw works wonders! Most people see some of my boxes and think it is full of soil. Nope we take all our old straw and pile in on top of another box until it is full and keep on planting. I have a good feeling your corn is going to grow like wildfire buddy! Another awesome how to video ya done here!
I hope your corn grows well. I think I will make a bed with the strawbales I have this season for next season.
Good luck with the corn and the birds from eating it. I after seeing out people we started our sweet corn [peaches & cream and white hybrid] indoors before transplanting them outdoors. We are putting together our three sister garden with them.
Many people suggest that I thin these out. What's your thoughts? Thin them? Spacing?
Help out the Brew City Gardener,….thanks….
Looking good my friend. We plan to sow our corn this weekend. Just a small patch like yours, hoping for an plentiful and early harvest for you!
I space my corn about 5 -8” apart rows and plants. I wouldn’t worry about thinning them. Good luck getting some tasty corn.
