VIDEO: No Dig – Ruth Stout – Used Straw Bale Garden Update

In this video we take a look at the hybrid in ground garden at the rear of the property. This garden is made up of mostly used straw bales from the Brew City Straw Bale Garden. This garden is the most fertile garden on the property and it’s the easiest to maintain. So far everything I plant in this garden grows unbelievably well! The no dig Ruth Stout style garden is just a winner all the way around. It’s just incredible! Thanks for watching!

  1. Oppe – Another great video. I have JBs here in abundance. Your corn is fine as long as soil is fertile with adequate nutrients. It's no more crowded than a 3 sisters planting with beans filling out space and ground shaded with squash. If you ever do a 3 sisters planting, you might want to consider a wider spacing on the corn. Otherwise, it looks fine. Your garlic is FINE sir! I'll have to look up yacan (sp?). Heard of it but not familiar with it. Thanks for sharing your garden.

  2. The corn is looking great! I used to grow corn with no problems in the city (that was in my childhood and no fertilizer era), but ironically since moving to a farm, seriously NO luck with corn. Am trying this year and am fertilizing, but I think I need to break out more nitrogen!

  3. Your gardens are looking fantastic! We have wild sunflowers in our area that look like the mammoth ones you show. They are everywhere this time of year — very beautiful! Heading out in a few minutes to deal with Japanese Beetles myself… yuck!
