VIDEO: Organic Weed Control – Weed Torch

Welcome back to the Brew City Gardener channel where this week we are taking a look at organic weed control. Weed torches are one of the most effective and permanent organic weed control methods available. I just ordered a new weed torch so lets take a close look at it and see how it works! 1. What a trip! I'd just use caution if any of the weeds are poison ivy, poison oak, or poison sumac. When you hit those leaves and stems with fire, they release urushiol into the air. It can be carried on the wind for up to a quarter of a mile, and if you inhale it, it can get into your lungs.

  2. Welcome to the fire side! Being careful with where the heat goes. We have a $12 torch from Harbor Freight and it works great. If you can “heat treat” the plants as they are germinating you don’t need to completely incinerate them. A quick pass will do them in! I burned the north yard pretty heavily to make the weed seeds pop like popcorn before we left for our road trip. Few weeds were alive when we got back. Thanks for sharing!
