In this video, I show how to grow a pineapple plant in a glass of water so it can be planted out into the garden when ready at a later stage for best results and fruiting.

Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂
Hi, Mark.
I'm a long time subscriber and follower. I'm also a terminal cancer patient with few days left.
I'm writing to thank you for all the happiness your work has brought me. You have a magical, fun and informative way of speaking and teaching. I follow many of the leading homesteading vloggers, but I always find you to be exceptionally enjoyable, mostly because of your endearing personality. Thank you for sharing that magic with me, Mark. This world is a more special place because you are in it.
dude i love you!
Brilliant, that’s got me going with mine.
This video was very informative. Ive trying to grow pineapples, and couldn't figure out, why i was unsuccessful. Thank you. Thumbs up!
Currently growing one now!! Do I clip the dead leaves while growing in a cup? Also I’ve seen small pieces of mold on the wettest part of the plant
Is it ok if the leaves of pineapple fruit were trim down before planting? Some fruit sellers sell that way, selling pineapple fruit with no leaves but only it's stalk of a fruit leaving behind.
I could never get this to work. I'm guessing the water PH must be fairly specific. Much greater success immediately putting them into high quality soil
mine wont grow roots =(
Hello, I put a pineapple top in water, but the top is drying out. Should i give up and try again? Or just be patient? Its been about two weeks.
You are so enjoyable and pleasant to watch thank you for this relaxing experience

I heard of a strange method to propagate pineapples that is apparently faster; the whole core of the fruit is saved along with the stem and planted in the ground. The reason is that it allows faster root development.
Happy new hair cut Mark. Great video. I’ll give it a go mate.

Hello sir
I have put my pineapple head in water but every time I change the water the water stinks and the base from where the roots come has become slimy and stinky
What should I do??
Is it good to trim the pineapple leaves to minimize plant transpiration when it is first rooting?
because it is winter now in europe i decided to grow it in a glass of water until spring :). Btw i really love your videos and enjoy watching them.
Yeah and wait 18 months for pineapple
TOM PIPPS FOAM- BATON ROUGE LOUISIANA USA HI HELLO &
Question!
What KIND of soil should be used for pineapple in a glass?
We had ours in a glass for months and we want to pot it is something either movable or above ground, just incase our weather goes 2020 on us (hurricanes, dry heat, rain in the 30°s)
I have been growing pineapple plants in Germany for 30 years, have a tropical hot house to overwinter pineapples and I have bananas and papaya in the hot house all year round.
You are really great to watch…thank you Mate! Cheers
I can do this !!!!
Lmao. Danger gardening. You're a trooper Mark.
I wish that I could have a pineapple, but I live in zone 7 in Arkansas USA.
