Well this did give me hope. I grow potatoes in Tenn this summer and they turned out great.
I managed to grow some small sweet potatos in Zone 4 last year, I started late though, so this year I started the slip process earlier and I may make a small little greenhouse with t-posts and vapour barrier around the planting area!

I'm 90 minutes North of Milwaukee and tried growing sweet potatoes for the first time this summer. I planted them in containers like yours and was told they should be dug up before the first frost. We're not expecting frost but I just couldn't wait any longer so today was the day. I'm so excited to tell you I have wonderful sweet potatoes and will plant them again next year!!!
