VIDEO: How to Make Homemade Elderberry Syrup | Roots and Refuge Farm

Today, I’m showing you how I make homemade elderberry syrup, a powerful homemade remedy.

Products used in this video:
Dried Elderberries: https://amzn.to/2pA2Oeg
Dried Rose Hips: https://amzn.to/2PQzNWq
Swing-top Glass Bottles: https://amzn.to/36Eh06j

Recipe:
3/4 C. Dried Elderberries
3 Cinnamon Sticks
2 T. shredded fresh ginger
1 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 C. dried rose hips.
3 1/2 C. Water
1 C. Raw Honey

Put all ingredients except honey in a heavy bottom pot and bring to boil over medium high heat. As soon as boil begins, drop heat to simmer and cover. Simmer 45 minutes.

Turn off the heat and let the product cool to the point it can be handled. Removed cinnamon sticks and mash contents with a spoon or masher. Press through fine mesh sieve, squeeze through cheese cloth or put through juicer.

Mix 1 cup of honey into the resulting juice. Store in airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a few months. Take a spoonful daily or as needed.

  2. Do you use English or American berries? I'm right about cyanide in the English berries, but it can be cooked. I want to make sure that I have the right recipe for the right berries!

  3. Love it, have you tried camu camu powder? I make elderberry syrup every year around this time but a friend of mine told me to add camu camu because of its extremely high vitamin c content ♡

  4. I grow elderberries to help shade my chicken coop….two plants produced about 4 gallons of berries in their second summer. Very easy to grow your own and make homemade syrup!

  5. Searching for a syrup recipe and I come across yours. Im already a subscriber so very happy I found this video. Im using fresh berries from a secret patch that took me 5 years to find. Also using honey from my Uncles farm.
