Don’t be fooled into thinking leaves are a waste, they can be a huge assest to your garden and used many different ways. You can make leaf compost, leaf mold, or even use it as a mulch for your garden. Today I will show you how to make both leaf mold and leaf compost.

What is in the pile to the right? Maybe you said & I missed it?
We in Washington don’t have many leaves we just have pine needles
Had sandy boulevard, to garden, and some rotting "Leave Patty's" worked great, for helping to interact with icky sandy crap. Wet and rotting, just heap on top.
Your ability to inspire as you learn and grow yourself is a gift. I have gone back and watched your channel from the beginning. I am 65 yrs young and am starting my food forest this Fall (2021). Question: I am afraid to start a compost pile because it can attract rats. Have you had that problem? (My garden buddies, Taffy & Lolly, are 130# and 140# Landseers so won't be allowed in my food forest, but will guard it at the gate!)
Wow he doesn’t take a pause at all when he is talking. I need to play it at 0.5 speed
Really good
I enjoy watching your videos. I get lots of ideas and I learn a lot of things. You're super energetic and fun to watch.
i found some lost never used bricks of freeze dried coffee, years old. can i use that in the garden?
Anyone know what type of mold is cultivated in this process?
.75 speed makes it a lot easier to watch but fantastic video great information
Helpful information, thanks!
Can i use my pee as a nitrogen source?
Thank you James. I learn so much from you. You have inspired me a lot. All your videos are great.
Luv Jim
you can speed this up a lot by peeing directly onto your pile of leaves – super cheap and saves you both a flush and a walk to the house – love your videos by the way keep em coming
I love composing sometimes it takes awhile but in the end you have soil for free!
Charging for a subscription to your channel?
Great video thankyou! I'm in Northern Jersey. have dabbled in gardening, but in 2020 got serious increasing garden size to fill entire backyard & side yard. I'm in aw of your 'food forest' & garden. Tuck is adorable do you ever worry about Hawks or other predator's getting him? My Maltese is same size as Tuck. There are often hawks circling our yard & neighborhood we keep an extra close eye on our little dog.
does it matter what type of fungi you add to plastic bag?
Now I have a use for my chicken wire sitting in my shed 🙂
Love your enthusiasm for composting bro!
I am 87 years old. I have been making composted leaves for many, many years. I rake them, (I have 1 acre of deciduous trees) go over them with my mower and put them in a heap at the end of my yard and let them do their job. In the spring I have beautiful soil. Hardly any work .
James: You're saying 5-1 C/N ratio for leaf mould development, but I live northward in Ag Hardiness Zone 5, so wouldn't the ratio be less diff? I just did it at maybe about 4/1 ratio. Thanks & hope it works. I was piling them on the garden beds anyway, in an attempt at more fully switching to no till, Regenerative Agriculture, which should be legislated as the new & only way to grow food, so to replace topsoil lost since 1945, from that horrifyingly wrongly named, "Green Revolution".
watched this in time to prevent making a big mistake. Thanks.
I,m glad you pointed out that leaves need to be mulched/cut up.. uncut leaves shed and repel water.. water is important to breaking down leaves.
YOUR'RE THE BEST. THANKS
i just leave them in bags for months
