VIDEO: How to Use a Humidifier for Your Houseplants 💦🌱

Tropical indoor houseplants need more humidity than we give them, especially in the colder months. The solution is to use a humidifier for plants, so here are a few recommendations on how to set one up, where to place it, as well as the one I think is the best cool mist humidifier for the money.

I set the humidistat on mine to about ~50%. With that setting, mine runs for DAYS without needing to be refilled.

  1. Do you notice this brand humidifier getting stuck??? I got 1. But the rH% will get stuck while my sensors show higher RH…..then boom it realizes it too high. Shuts off
And same there. Sometimes stays off too long. Realizes wayyyyy to late how low it is. Kicks on…

  2. There’s a cool mist and a warm mist. Is there a difference in how they affect plants (calathea, monster) in winter months? I live in Los Angeles and the outdoor humidity is really low 20% 70 deg f. Which would you recommend during the colder months?

  3. I use a warm mist evaporator for myself.
Unfortunately, I think if I keep my plants too close, it burns them. I had some calatheas, marantas, and ferns near it and they have damaged leaves now. I don't really want to buy a new humidifier…

  4. I have the same humidifier. Works great! I live in edmonton alberta in canada, are winters are cold and DRY. I fill this bad boy up and let er run at 35% till its empty. My plants seem to like it, I dont get nose bleeds at night, and my cat has less dander. Triple win

  5. I have a Calathea right now that is a tropical plant that needs to be in a high humidity environment. Recently, I bought a humidifier for it but I am not quite sure how far should the humidifier be from the plant and the pot seems to be wet because of the humidifier, any tips about it?

  6. Thank you for reading my mind.
**My question is this: in relation to the plants, do you place the humidifier below them (on tray on floor), level with them, or above them (on shelf with plants below). I use a Crane Penguin. I think I'm going to invest in one that can do what yours does, though.

  7. How close can i keep the humidifier next to my plants? I just got a portable mini humidifier and put it right next to my monstera. Would that be bad for my plant?

  8. How long do you keep your humidifier running? I actually used one that we already had for colds and put my plants in our bathroom. It’s a warm mist one and doesn’t have any features, it’s that simple of a machine. But it filled up the bathroom pretty well!

Would putting my plants in the bathroom and then taking them out negatively affect them? I just can’t fit them all in there all the time :/

  9. I’ve ordered three Nepenthes and they need humidity and I want to buy a humidifier. I found this program extremely interesting, but I’m not sure which one to buy. I liked the one being demonstrated but couldn’t catch the name and I’m in Australia and need the name of one suitable to buy here.

  10. Or try just turn on your shower and have it open in your bath room with door closed to the room. Try with both cold and warm temperature water, and see if cold water will create the same kind of mist on your bathroom mirror, for example.
