How To Grow An Avocado From Seed! In this video, I’ll show you step by step how to take a store-bought Avocado fruit and grow a brand new Avocado plant from the large seed inside.
Originally from Puebla, Mexico, this large, distinct fruit is the main ingredient in Guacamole. It can be quite a large plant, and it is most definitely tropical. So for most of us, it will have to be grown indoors.
The process is quite simple, but it can take some time. It involves simply taking the nut from inside the Avocado fruit, cleaning it of both Avocado meat as well as the brown layer of skin. Then we stick toothpicks in it and suspend it/submerge it in a jar of water. Sprouting can take up to 3 months, after which the plant itself grows quite quickly.
This is a great indoor growing project to do with kids and another great way for indoor gardeners to beat the winter blues and continue growing and producing inside.

I am an avocado lover and I will try this!
Should I put this in sunlight or keep it in the shade?
Thanks dude! Your videos are very informative and helpful. Self sustainability is critical to the survival of the planet
The best way, I throw my seeds/pits into my composter in any season, a few months later I dig them up.. Usually 90% of the seeds have sprouted.. Slow but simple
My seed split in half when I was removing the toothpicks before planting. I put both halves together in the soil in the pot. Will this effect whether it grows or not?
Most of these seeds will give you a tree, but no fruit. Also, they grow stronger and faster if you just place them directly into soil.
It only takes 8 to 10 years, from seed.
Try grow them in soil, they grow faster and get big in a coupel of months
My left ear enjoyed this.
What happens if I don’t take off the brown layer?
I found wet paper towel in a zip lock bag works best.
It will not produce avocado. Your chance is 1 in 10,000 that it will produce the same fruit. You have to buy from a garden center which comes from a tree that produces avocado.
Without grafting just remember your seed plant will not produce fruit. Pretty houseplant thats all.
What is the minimum night temperature?
I don't know where you get your toothpicks but that looks more like a weapon you could stab somebody with it
Very instructive video.
Do you give them direct sunlight ?? When first putting them the the water waiting on them to sprout
yes very imformational video…BUT, was it just me or was his sentences ending with high pitch every single time!!!!!!! no offense to the videos maker
My mother planted one a very long time ago. It grew like a house on fire. She remarried, my stepfather was a meteorologist with the NWS, and he transferred & we moved to Memphis TN.
A moving company packed us up, but we arrived in Memphis in a Volkswagen, with the avocado in the backseat with me, Mom refused to leave it behind. Lol it was tall.
That plant lived for a pretty long time. ❤️ I'm starting my own tomorrow.
Thank you for taking the time to share and demo, going to give it a try here, cheers and happy new year
Thank you for sharing now I know where I made my mistakes will try again!
I've tried this trick and it never works
So many people are going to be disappointed it won't fruit the ones you're going to get from a store lol
Avocado trees grown from seed may take up to 10 years to fruit. Some never flower or set fruit. I have a few avocado trees in my yard, all grown from seed, which have never flowered. Now I'm stuck with trees almost 20 feet tall. What do I do with them? Chop them down? Or go to a nursery, buy a grafted tree, then try to graft scions from that tree?
