Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark ๐
As an Aussie Girl, you are a classic fella!
Looking forward to watching more of your content, loving the heat hardy plants, always great when you mention that they are good with the heat like the spinach!
Thank you for what you do and you are so much fun to watch!
Me whant some of those wonderful fruits
Better cord is good for debate
I have a dragon fruit plant but i cant get it to pollinate. Its had a bunch of flowers but no matter what i did it wouldnt take. Those red ones look delicious
Good God I hate Ku-gua..Bitter melon. There is one use I found for it. You let it completely dry out on the vine(don't even think of harvesting it) and when it is like paper to the touch you get a really good luffa.
Hi all the bitter fruit name is carilley the leaf you can use as a cleanser boil it with the hair from corn and drink it for five days it works great
I love your videos, but 11:00 earned you a new subscriber on this video ๐ Thanks for the great content!
Thank you for your videos, every single one is amazing. I live around the region of the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia and originally from El Salvador where we have all types of tropical fruits like Australia. One of the fruits in El Salvador that I like the most is the Annona (pink and white).
Iโve watched hundreds of hours of YouTube videos on gardening and Mark is by far the most informative, practical, and entertaining. Thanks much to him, Iโm growing dragonfruit and fingerlimes in Oklahoma. My first dragonfruit is maturing and Iโm pretty sure itโs the same American Beauty variety heโs growing.
I tried the light purple eggplants…their seeds were a little over powering for eggplant parm. I also was not a fan of the texture. So I an understand why they wouldn't sell very well
I'm learning so much! Thank you.
Armenian cucumber!

How grow Dragon Fruit for beginners
IDE kill for that storm, Tamworth is stinking hot today,
beautiful soul
Lilly pilly. Absolutely delicious in salads and just straight off the tree/bush (Iโm in a temperate zone in Perth and keep the tree pruned to an easily manageable hedge.
I live in a colder climate ( Robertson nsw) how will they go there?
I found a mandarin finger lime growing under a huge bush in our yard when we moved into our home with its overgrown garden and once we freed it, it exploded! I put them in every drink possible and ate them in salads or just plain with a bit of salt. Fingerlimes are awesome!!!
Sweet Katuk "spinach" tree. great tasting, easy to grow in Florida 9B and loaded with protein and vitamins.
I love your channel. That butter gourd is very good for your blood if you are iron deficient. Please show us how you grew them.
I love your videos as well as your vibe, your attention to your plants is really inspiring. Alot of the plants you have i cant grow here in northern michigan usa, but none the less educational on how i should treat my plants as well as new ones i can grow! Thank you for your videos!

Hi Mark,
I watch your videos, some of them a few times.
Could you help me out,- Iโm setting a veggie garden now, really want to get asparagus going but canโt find crowns anywhere. Is it so out of season? Would you know who might have them for sale?
Thank you,
Elena
In Georgia, USA I've seen jerusalem artichokes at the grocery store. Never heard of many of the others. Would like to find Egyptian spinach since our climate is hot, too.
Grow the Jerusalem Artichoke in a container. It is a full time job trying to contain it. The flatulence seems to go away once you get used to it. Don't eat too many the first time. It has inulin.
Asian and Indian markets sell all sorts of eggplants and other interesting produce.
