  1. Loved this. Its so practical. I am a new sub! Thanks for your uplifting spirit and happiness all the time. I am a VERY busy mom of 3(one with medical issues) a wife, a business owner and a small context producer so I was starting my garden after just building our house last year. We are starting small bc its been 10 years since I have grown. Thanks for this! Shalom!

  2. I'm starting my first raised bed garden at my new home. I have had luck with tomatoes and potatoes on a back deck in the past so come spring I want to expand a little and just see what else I can grow even tho I am not really that good at keeping plants alive. I am going into it knowing I might kill most of what I try to grow. But I try and way and will keep trying even if I fail.

  3. I love this video. I have enough room for a decently large garden in my yard but know I’d be overwhelmed. Your explanation of what you’d put in the kids garden was absolutely PERFECT! Thank-you so much!

  4. What has held me back so much in gardening is telling myself that I'm not experienced enough for things. Definitely seeing channels like yours where I can see you trying new things, has helped me learn I need to just go for it and learn. Especially because no youtube channel will have the exact same soil, weather, etc as me.

  5. I also think ppl shoudl think about what the cost of the produce is in the grocery store. so for instance, cabbage potaotes onions are very cheap. in a really small garden you are saving much money growing these. but organic peppers and tomatoes are very expensive and productive. i would choose to grow those.

  6. Such wise words! I disagree on one thing–okra. I grew it one year, yielded a ton, and no one I know eats okra. Don't make the same mistake. Eat what you like, but Jess's advice on the value and volume is so important. Everything tastes better home grown! Herbs and maybe a couple small flowers give good value for money and attract pollinators. Happy growing! I expect to get your book in the next few weeks.

  7. Let your kids try making a Teepee by planting Corn stalk, climbing bean and a squash that can climb, is the Native American method. They can actually play inside and out, perhaps camp I except it may be buggie) and have a roast with parental supervision. The larger the poles, the wider and taller the teepee can be made. It's just a fun thing to do and yet you get food off it.

  8. This is so helpful; I nearly started my whole ideal garden at once this year, and I'm so glad I checked myself and started with a 1-person yield.

  9. I have a small patio garden and have grown peppers and tomatoes for a couple years. Last year I had a tough time with disease and pests and was very discouraged (covid didn’t help). I’m so glad I found your channel. I’ve learned so much from you and I have regained my enthusiasm for gardening. I’m starting a variety of veggies from seed this year and can’t wait to see how it turns out!

  10. I grew 16 okra (per 4×4 foot square) in four raised plots, and we had more okra than we had ever gotten before! Being crowded didn’t slow them down a bit! I’m in Arizona, where okra grows like weeds. Because our last winter was extremely mild, the okra kept trying to produce blossoms through the winter! My husband was getting tired of picking okra, and now we have a freezer filled with it. Okra tastes really good cooked in rice. We also like it in soups and fried.
Needless to say, we aren’t growing more okra this year….gotta get through what’s in the freezer first.
