VIDEO: Best Seed Storage System I've EVER Used!

My seed collection keeps growing at an EPIC pace, so I’ve had to evolve my seed storage ideas. I used to use a jewelry box, but there were a ton of problems with it, so I’ve swapped over to these photo storage boxes that I found on Amazon:

  1. For my regular sized seed packages, I close the opening with clips if I opened that seed bag already. I store all of them in a small cardboard box. I have this large bag of strawberry bulbs that don't fit in there so I put it in an empty frozen veggie bag that can reseal at the top, like a ziploc bag that I didn't have to pay extra for.

  2. My father always used a huge metal tin (the macadamia nut ones from hawaii) and he would organize them inside of it with plastic bags by groups with the envelopes inside! very similar method but not quite as clean. Only way to upgrade you method that I would recommend is refrigeration

  3. I watched this video hoping to find something more affordable than my current seed storage system. I was a little surprised to see that this video features the exact same system I am using. Down to the seller, size, and even color of the exterior. The iris photo storage boxes come in a variety of colors. My problem? Two of them are $60. I've already filled 8 and more than half of my seeds don't fit in it. I have a extensive seed collection.
I've spent $240 for the first 8. Would need to spend at least $240 more dollars for another 8 and I suspect I would need four or six more beyond that. I can't afford $1,000 on seed storage containers. Back to the drawing board.
I need something that can hold a thousand packets or more of seeds, I'm sure that's way understating it.

  4. Great video. Just love love love the way you store your seeds. I'll be doing this. Also in Australia, all the seeds have a "Sow before" date. Interesting. Usually they have a "scheduled viability" of 3 years. Thanks again.

  5. If you live in the north, most of the time you only get one shot at getting
it right. It's not a bad idea to test any suspect seeds in late January, early
February to check viability. Whilst there's still time to order new.
    Very cool storage idea. TYFS

  6. That is fucking geneious,… Came for such a solution. I am not disappointed. 😀 here in germany it is 30-40€ though for a box like yours. I guess if your mild OCD reached this level it is also definetly worth it 😀 inspired by someones comment; you could poke small holes in one of the containers and put some silica gel in it.

  7. I have two of the photo boxes full of seeds…and ordered more this week. Since I needed more storage, Michael's had them on sale in their Black Friday sale, so I bought two more yesterday. (I did some seed-saving this year, so I truly needed more storage.) Worse comes to worse, I will gift one to my daughter.
