In this video, I begin building a raised vegetable garden bed and we take a look at what’s been happening on our self-sufficient property over the past several days.

Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂
Appreciate and enjoy your videos…have watched a lot of them! Have yet to find any on how you water your raised beds and fruit trees. Would really benefit from instruction on different techniques to accommodate different plant requirements. Thanks!
Whats the life span of that type raised bed?
You have an amazing soil all i have is rock cant go more that 2inch in what should I do?
Hey Mark! Awesome video as always! Do you mind commenting on why killing the moth? I'm genuinely curious.
I'm Canadian, zone 4. Your April is our October. We have most nights below 0°C and snow is around the corner. You're surrounded by tropical flora. They put my ancestors on the wrong damn ship.
That pt wood will rot over time if not in concrete
great videos! the birds that are singing in the background are unfamiliar to me, are you able to identify them on your videos?
What are ur green raised bed made of?
Are there logs in this big bed???
Hey Mark,
Mate i live in Brisbane and I am considering making a back to Eden garden for veggies, have you tried the method and do you think it works here in SE Queensland?
Where do you buy these round tonnes are they expensive?
HOw do you make the metal garden beds? BTW your home looks amazing. So beautiful
What's the name of the tool you used to dig the post holes? I've search for "post hole digger" but it seems to be a different simpler tool…
I've never seen a post hole digger like that in the US but it looks awesome!
like Robinson Crusoe

I love watching your videos! You're amazing! You can grow anything!!! I watch your shows every night. I watch the beet one and carrot one every night
What was that tool you used to drill the hole
Is no one else heavily amused by the ongoing kookaburra commentary? Them some judgey birds.
No, you're not the worst. I am!
I am from Canada and I really enjoy watching your videos. I think your property is so beautiful and really love hearing all the birds. I have learned alot from watching your videos , thank you very much.

Different kind of video. Missed hearing your dad jokes…
Thanks for keeping it real.
Your positivity is infectious. I have very similar injuries to you. Watching you overcome on a daily basis is inspirational. The winter project was to knock over the separate playroom and build a new raised garden. I finished planting out yesterday. The pain score is 9/10, but so is the self satisfaction, so it's Ok. ish!
Loved this one!!
I just love watching you videos. Informative, interesting and funny sometimes… thanks for giving us a peek at your beautiful garden…
