In this video, I’ve gone a bit deeper than the average plant hack, really examining the structure of the onion and seeing if we can do a twist on the classic regrowing onions tips you see everywhere.

So then how and when do you harvest them?
I'm glad I watched this video….I just put the whole onion i the ground with the sprouts above the soil last night. I'm off to dig them up and do it the right way, now.
I put them in water to rejuvenate the roots. They aren't dead.
Ok, so how do you make a onion sprout though? There seems to be no clear information that i've found that tells you the most efficient way to make them pop a greenie. I've put some onions root down in water and have gotten roots but not a green stalk. Any ideas?

I did this. The plant produced nice tall flowers but it seems that is still oval in shape as you said. I will wait more time to see if it develops into a normal onion.

If you don’t eat many onions and you really don’t like them that well, you can just eat a little bit from the tops
This always happens to onions and garlic but they always die when I plant them in a pot.
Can i use this method to get onion flowers, take those seeds, and then plant them to grow real edible onions ?
Thanks for the valuable info. I split one onion today and got three usable bulbs or sprouts. Another day or so and I probably would have had to throw the whole thing away! T.Y

Can you eat the green sprouts?
mainly checked this since there was a red onion that was in the fridge that mother bought but never ate before she died and i saw it was growing some sprouts on the top. and they have gotten bigger as it sits atop the trashcan and was thinking "wait can i cultivate this into a new crop altogether" and figured to check if i could do that or how to do that.
You might actually want to try this… If you are stranded on Mars and have no other options. Huge waste of time for anyone who has something like… a garden to tend to.
