  1. I like tomatoes starters becouse I can’t grow tomatoes from seed very well…. but the the rest for me is seeds becouse you learn the whole experience from seed to harvest

  2. When I lived in Florida, I could grow everything from seed. Even in my compost pile. Up here in Washington, I had to use starter plants for most things that I grew. One year I decided I wanted to grow watermelon. So, I looked for a variety the had the shortest time from planting to harvest.
I had always heard or read that melons don't transplant well; so, when I planted my seeds I planted them in peat pots so that when the last frost date passed, I could plant the pot and all into the garden and that way, I wouldn't have to disturb the roots at all. Maybe I could have purchased starter plants grown in plastic pots; but, I didn't want to take the chance. It costs less to grow from seed.
I think western WA has a longer growing season that we do over here. At least, it didn't seem like they had as extreme temperature changes as we do over here.

  4. The thumbnail image messed me up.
What kind of evil sorcery or elemental transmogrification is it when a pumpkin seed turns into a tomato plant?!

I know it's because tomato seeds don't show well on camera and pumpkin is highly resistant to being transplanted, but still. If I planted pumpkin and tomato came out, Mr. Lovecraft himself wouldn't be able to aptly describe my reaction.

  5. Seeds are cheaper, but don't always germinate. I could not get any tomato seeds to germinate, bought 12 plants from Walmart. No pepper seeds would germinate, bought 3 plants from Walmart, ONE strawberry seed out of a pack of over 100 germinated, no place has plants. Everything else was fine, peas, beans and sweet corn, and even garlic cloves from the grocery store.

  6. What zone are you in that you're growing tomatoes that size in May? Are you in the Southern States? Here were I live you can't put bedding plants out till the end of May let alone be harvesting anything!

  7. I planted carrots, green beans, lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, and a few tomato plants after I started them from seed in my house. I transferred them to outside and the next day most were gone. I though maybe the rabbits were back, but that was not the case. It was birds. I found this out by going outside right around 5:30 am (couldn't sleep) and saw finches pecking away at the surviving plants. So, I planted everything from seed and put a "bird fence" over the top of the fencing above the garden area. Now I have bean plants with leaves that are being eaten by something. Nothing is bothering the lettuce, carrots, and potatoes. Any ideas on what I could use to spray my plants?

  8. How do I get started with starting seeds in modules as far as supplies and tools go? I am for direct seeding right now because I don't have a big budget for the starting plants kits and supplies.

  9. Wow! The information you share on this channel is so fulfilling and a great learning experience.
Can you also post a list of recommended plants to use with starters?
    Thanks again…
Even better would be if you can post both lists in the comment section.
