In this video, I show how I fix a broken raised garden bed that had buried logs and wood in the base (Hugelkultur) and I also show you our new plant prepping area.

Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

Thanks mate .. for the wonderful idea of using concrete blocks and wooden planks for racking pots .. you did save my thousands on Indian currency … and thumbs up for the raised bed idea using dried wood as stuffing and natural compost.
G'day Mark! Have just watched around 10 of your videos so far and always been excited to click on the next video. Just realized I haven't hit the Subscribe button yet! So there you go, hit it just now! Just wondering, with all the great gardening stuff on your videos, you're still a bit far from 1M subs mark?

Mark are you burying the corner post’s or are they free standing?
Have you considered Aquaponics Mark? It'd be a lot easier to catch fish 😉
Nice fart! XD
Sure Mark blame it on the horse.
Do you end up having a favorite material that you prefer to build your beds out of?
Hi Mark! I'm 12 years old and I love gardening and your channel!!
Wow that’s is awesome!!!!! I love blue bear flutes. One of these days I’ll buy myself one of his hand made creations. I always feel inspired after watching your channel!
How do you go with termites with the hardwood posts?
I'm wanting to build raised beds from corrugated metal. My wife said she read somewhere that one of the big issues is that it gets too hot for the plants. Have you experienced anything like that with your beds?
I AM THE MOIST DEW ON THE MORNING GRASS!!!!
Thanks for the follow up on the garden bed
My grandads got me gardening early I have learnt a lot from mistakes maybe more than successes.
Wood doesn't attract termites?
I had no idea you had a second channel, you should link that in your descriptions!
Yeah yeah, sure it was the horse
Guys, is it ok to use treated pine for vegetable beds? I did research on the web and professional opinions are that treated pine is ok to use, as the chemicals/arsenic that they use is stabilised and no longer chemically active, while the wood no longer attractive food for termites or mould bacteria. Does anybody use treated pine?
I know red gum would be preferred but it is a lot harder to get now and off course quite expensive.
love the videos. would parm tree stumps work in the bottom of a raised garden bed?
Whenever a gardener farts,an angel gets his wings….Hello from Rhode Island!

Yes sir, Spirit flutes are the soil of nature's music for me. I have owned my first spirit flute since I was 12 I play it all the time when I pray or meditate in the woods or in my garden. it is my release and my door to the good spirits and blessing. I have Cherokee/Apache native blood in my family as well as Scottish/irish. The old native instruments mean alot to me as I own spirit flutes, bagpipes, drums, as well as drums and flutes I have crafted my self. it is an amazing thing to play and listen to. Nature/mother earth is an amazing thing and I think more people should understand her and be more in touch with here.
Sorry if my punctuation is off
This episode was the seed sown to get around to subbing awesome philosophy
Hi. I have a question for you. Can I add freshly cut tree trunk to fill up my planter? Or shall I let it dry? Thanks
