I think I have enough evidence to say that 3 of my 4 Lavender Orpingtons are cockerels. This is disappointing, but most hatches are never exactly 50/50.
Stay tuned as we will be integrating the Lavender Orpingtons with our older flock soon!

oh I am sorry you might have so many roosters. 🙁
I was hoping you got at least 2 hens
I understand I have that problem too many roo
Geez
That happens to me every time I hatch chickens
Last month I was at the feed store. A run-of-the-mill rooster was selling for $24.99. Maybe you could sell a rooster or two and give one to your friend. The chickens are beautiful, Al, and they have thrived under your care. I know you are a bit let down but there is always next time.
I read on google that chickens eat egg shells for the calcium. You had a really great garden this summer and the chickens look good. Great video, btw, when does your schools start back?
We have 3 buff orphingtons about the same age as your chicks. Hatched in early June. They are just starting to get their combs and none are red yet. but 2 of them are large compared to the others, but we have been told they would be crowing by now if they were Roosters. So dont give up yet..maybe the others will be hens. They are lovely birds.
Chicken are like pig they will eat just about anything. But that said egg shell are good, for young Chicken it will help there egg to be strong. If you have gotten one was thin you know what I'm talking about.
They are such beautiful birds!
