If your store potatoes go green don’t throw them out! Instead, try re-growing them first as I show in this video…

Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂
It's the way I'm going this year, which is my first with spuds. Thanks!
I do this when I can.
That was excellent Mark ! Way to save what would have been thrown away converted into consumable food again . Perfect recycle !
can you just replant one of the potatoes you harvested to keep the cycle going? is a seed potato a special type of potato?
Thanks Mark once again!!!
Is it ok to plant potato when there is no shoot?
As an American in a climate where we get 3 hot months, I am so jealous.
I didn’t know that you could take store-bought green potatoes and plant them like you did that was an amazing nugget seems the last 18 months I’ve been getting a lot more green tomatoes in my store bags when I purchased them I normally raise them myself but this last year we ran out so planning all new varieties this year along with some old ones….Good luck with your season
Can't eat green potatoes…?
OK! Now this answers a lot of questions for me. The last few months, almost all of the potatoes I have bought were green, and they sprouted eyes shortly after getting them home. Watching your videos, I have learned a LOT! Don't throw out those eggs that you forgot about, and no more throwing out that 5 pound bag of green potatoes! I have some growing in my pantry as we speak. I will give them a go! Thanks so much!
You can probably eat green potatoes. Solanine is toxic, but not that toxic.
fuckin oath mate
from the dozen or so green potatoes you re-planted how often do you get double or triple in return?
Nice video mate
I came for gardening tips, I stayed for the corny dad jokes
They are beautiful! That was completely unexpected from the green ogres that you buried in there.
Hi Mark, how often and for how long should I water a potato crop? I’d like to give spuds ago in my garden but I don’t want them to rot by over watering. I live in Townsville. Love your channel! Regards, Karen
I have never bought "seed" potatoes. Only ever plant potatoes that are well past their "best before" date.
Jerusalem Artichokes are not artichokes and they're not from Jerusalem. They are actually a species of sunflower native to central North America.
That's a very respectable crop.
Why do u continue to stab potatoes with your fork. Those big hands should be able to dig them up.
Dude, you've blown my mind. We know so little compared to our great-grandparents. Thank you for your channel 🙂
I love you man
Beautiful soil
