  1. Hey Jess. I am a long time gardener but a newbie seed saver. I have a question about squash seeds. I got an organic delicata squash in a food subscription box. Would the seeds from that squash be mature enough to save or would it have needed to stay on the vine to the over-ripe stage?

  2. We were traveling the back roads in central Ohio looking for quilt barn squares. The last one of the day was at a place where the people homestead organically. I asked the lady if she does YouTube. She laughed and said she watches a lot of homesteaders. She mentioned Arkansas. I said roots and she finished my words. Then she said she loves watching you and a couple named Hollar. I said Meg and Ben it was so much fun. Thank you guys so much.

  3. Sometimes when watching, it's easy to lose sight of the gardening knowledge you pass along. The earth wants to be covered to stay fertile. Such simple advice and I'm sure other organic gardeners acknowledge that you nailed it with your easy to follow explanation.

  4. Great video & encouragement thank you. I'm in 6a and trying my luck with sowing some greens & root veggies. Planning to cover my grow bags as it gets colder & see how it goes.

  5. I'd like to plant a cover crop this year to help feed the soil/garden. What do you recommend and where can I order cover crop in bulk??? I have a 14ft. by 14 ft. bed and live in zone 10.
I love watching your life and the raising of boys, vegetables, and sweet creatures!!!!!

  6. Have you any plans to throw some freeze dried peppers into a spare coffee/herb grinder to make homemade powder blends? For example like taco seasoning and pre-made chili powder and stuff. Those were my goals this year but the pepper plan didn’t pan out lol (kind of important huh)

  7. I know this is a couple months old and you might not see this, Jess or anyone for that matter), You can grow turnips as fodder. You want the pigs to till a future garden space? Leave them a bunch of turnips in the dirt. Feed for the cost of the seeds, if you're growing it as a cover crop anyway…It is an OLD way of doing cover crops/livestock rotation.
