Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂
G'day Everyone! I'm posting this video on election day in the USA so I hope it's not a "rotten egg" lol… Seriously, for those of you in America watching this, I do wish you all (in the biggest democracy in the world) the very best. Whoever wins, I'm just thankful we live in countries that enable us to vote freely. As always, thank you all for your support, and make sure you Get Into It! Cheers 🙂
Can you cross polinate tomatoes ?
How about crushed chicken bones?
Bury an egg? Two plants dug up for egg and tossed aside on the first night. I have 21 plants with egg. What can I expect?
You should try to partner with one of those science channels for one of the experiments. Maybe you can see if the nutritional levels in the 2 different fruits would be any different. That would be interesting to see.
Awesome video Mark, I guess I'm going to tunnel under my new tomato seedlings I just put out yesterday and shove an egg or two under each of them. I'll remember this for future planting for sure. Your wisdom and experience are greatly appreciated from this 62yr old 1st time serious gardener.
Good stuff
So do the eggs attract raccoons and other critters?
I haven't heard of the term Flaring in reference to tomatoes. Am I hearing that correctly? What are you referring to when you say flaring. Is it growing taller?
P.S. I'm a dumb American 🙂
Damn it, why didn't I see this video this morning before I threw away some eggs
Is it the shells mainly or the insides of the eggs as well that fertilize the plant? Thanks this is awesome 🙂
wow!
So crack the eggs open or just bury them whole?
I wouldn't have tried this because ants are a problem. If we buried eggs it would be an ant apocalypse.
I came across an article about eating the leaves from tomato plants. What’s your take on this?
Seems life does come from life, Well for the most part.
Thank you Mark, I appreciate your teachings Sir and like Tony's good list you are on my "Top 5" and only because a few locally do have closer conditions like climits, soil and zone location as mine I just relate to.
A Gardener " Growfully with Jenna" on the you tube teachings of clay soil is a great help with my problem clay but fairly new and don't have the fan base but you didn't either in your starting days.
Also " I thank you for serving your country as a Veteran SIR"
It takes time for the shells to break down into the soil. You’ll get better results, from these eggs, next year.
Uhhh shouldn't be using scales on a soft surface as results will vary…
my grandad used to send me to the fishmongers to get fish heads he used to plant them under his tomatoes he said it worked wonders produced lots more fruit using those
I guess the difference would be bigger if you'd used a different tomato variety, as a dwarf variety won't be using all that extra nitrogen.
Ok….silly question I know…..are you using boiled eggs minus the shell or war eggs with the shells???
I Am Going To Try This
