How much money did we make this year? Lots of money, and also, from another perspective, no money at all. We don’t just make money here at Red Roof Family Farm, we also spend it, and this year we were more proficient at spending that earning. Don’t stress about us though, this is all part of the plan. We anticipated and budgeted for a handful of unprofitable years as we learn how to farm and build up the infrastructure of the farm.
This video is our first in a series about the business of being farmers, everything about selling at farmers markets, profits and losses, revenue, cash flow, or net income, we will talk about it all.

Grow and eat and keep selling to keep your dream alive.
Why don't you sell the harvest to supermarkets?
Just wondering where your farm is located. Would love to support you if you’re not to far away.
I would like to suggest you start a chicken composting system. You would end up saving money on the chicken feed and the compost. If you could get a local restaurant to donate their kitchen scraps you would spend a lot less money on these two items plus done right you might even end up with extra compost you could sell. Good luck!
Feed those chickens fodder and your feed bill will go down to about $100 for the year!
Wow even though I am not earning the money, I am so very happy as if I am the one that is rich! All the best!!
I just love the optimism you both exudes "_))
of course you will be on the minus, the major problem with farming is the huge expense for the equipment that you need to start, I am fellow farmers market seller and I started this year, I have spend more than 25.000 euro, the income is 1000 euro, (tomorrow I am starting my first day on farmers market so fingers crossed I will make the mount Im hoping for), and till next year I need to spend another 25.000 for more equipment….. but when the majority of the equipment will be done, then you will enjoy mostly profit. Farming is always a long term business.
I did one smart move, I didn't sold out my first veggies from mouth to mouth, and I let them to make seeds (while I was gathering all the paper work for my license which it took me 8 months total, each country has their own timing, you are lucky living in your country, Im not allowed to have a stand even outside my house till I get all the paper work, at least you sold quickly enough), which I gathered and I have literally kilos of seeds which I will use for my farming and selling and lower the amount of money I will spend in seeds in the future plus some profit.
But good work you guys, if you put minus the equipment you can see around how much money you will make in the future and I think from your land you can double that. U have a great start in my opinion, I wish you good luck and hung in there….
Thanks for keeping it real. I definitely need the perspective.
I am so so so impressed with your integrity, perseverance and amazing commitment to your desire to make a living off the land. May the fates shine upon you and may your future success be measured in $$$$$$ and happiness.
