VIDEO: How To Prune Grape Vines – Easy Cane Method

Prune Your Grape Vines In The Winter! As impressive as Grape plants are in full summer foliage, they become neglected and forgotten in the dormant months. Understandably, as the vines themselves become barren sticks giving no indication of their summer awesomeness!

But winter is right when you should be giving your Grape vines the most attention! Dormant pruning of Grapes is highly recommended to keep the plants as healthy as possible and producing the maximum amount of quality fruit the subsequent summer. It sounds odd, but you really need to cut down 80-90% of the plant to get the healthiest, most bountiful yield. Think of Grape vines like your lawn….the more you cut them, the better they grow!

In this video, I’ll show you when to prune Grape vines, what to look for, as well as going over the two main systems of pruning Grapes: Cane Pruning and Spur Pruning.

  2. I inherited an old grape vine when i bought this home. I don;t know what to do with them. 2 years ago it produced tons of grapes but they are small and sour. last year it grew less but the fruits dried up. Idk how to prune them. they are old.

  3. I found your channel just in time! I literally just uploaded a "Help! Need Grapevine Advice" video on my YouTube channel. I have a 3-year old grapevine that I'm not sure how to prune. Can you take a look at the video and give me some tips on how to start? Thank you so much.
