So…the heat generated by the alfalfa pellets is bad because you don't want to roast your seedlings……but if you wanted to use them as a lower layer in a cold Fram, couldn't they give you a jump start in spring by warming the soil temp? I remember reading about how the pilgrims used to compost directly beneath cold frame-like structures to get their seeds going in the late winter. The heat at that time of year was subtle, but have a few weeks running start.
I wonder if alfalfa would work well for this.
All the soaked pellet-mush became like a layer of concrete on top of our soil.. What did we do wrong?
Thank you so much! I just found out my long-lost father grew alfafa for a living… this reminds me of him. Can't wait to try this.
i dont think alfalfa is a grass its a legume
Are those alfalfa bags organic? I wouldn't want round up or something similar introduced in the garden or compost pile
I mixed the lawn clippings, steer manure, compost maker, and food scraps, and the compost turned a brown color like dead soil.
what do you have against the Handy capped that coment kinda pissed me off
I bet they add salts to it.
Can you just put a few pellets around your garden vegetables that are established?
Can they be used as a top dressing for lawns or will it burn grass because too concentrated nitrogen
I use alfalfa pellets and wood pellets and till in and let it rot ! Add this and that to make soil better
If you feed alfalfa pellets to rabbits, wouldn’t you attract rabbits by placing the pellets in your garden? LyNette, Golden, CO
I'm thinking to get the croutons and run them through the blender to break them down. Your thoughts? I got an awesome Oster for $19.99 at Wally World, that I use specifically for breaking down garden minerals: charcoal, old drywall, eggshells etc.
Why not just use winter rye????
Do you ever use cow manure?
What about plain old alfalfa hay that I have for my rabbit??
Cubes must be dried and broke down by hand or tool to use or just add to compost / soil
Is this okay for organic gardening? How much glyphosate and other garbage is in it?
In west coast both packages prices are much higher.
Any opinions on using baled alfalfa as a light mulch?
what is the ratio of water to alfalfa pettets/cubes?
Nice video thank you, very informative. Seems I keep hearing about Alfalfa and going into winter is a good time to be doing so. I will consider using this for putting beds to rest. Thanks for sharing! Have a good one.
Thank you for the info it explained why my compost was not breaking down going to try your method….
It also has trace elements in it!
Question: do they make the alfalfa pellets with alfalfa that has been treated with herbicides? I'm trying to keep chemicals out of my garden.
What is the name of the alfalfa you bought?
I put the alfalfa pellets in the garden after my rabbits eat them and cycle it thru!
Appreciate the tip! Always difficult to get good fertilizer for a small garden without having animals (manure) Can you suggest application amounts for a 4 x 8 bed?
I love your videos. Thanks. Unless you buy organic, animal feed alfalfa is GMO alfalfa. This makes them resistant to herbicides, allowing farmers to spray the crops heavily.
I would not put GMO alfalfa in my garden. The herbicide residue will adversely affect soil's microbial life.
