That last tip is definitely one I finally utilized this year. I joined a group for Iowa backyard gardeners and has truly helped me with tips, and reassurances, that any woes I experienced weren't just because of me (perhaps climate and weather affected us collectively). I would have likely thrown in the towel on a few areas had it not been for the community page.
i would put in a beautiful koi pond in that spot near your chimney.
what happens when you plant the seeds to close to each other. like lets say cherry tomatoes.
Hello Just want to say I am new to your channel. I just subscribed. 1st of all I love your swag. haha. 2nd thanks for explaining everything in a way that i can understand. you really have a way of making planting seem less scary, and less intimidating. i am new to planting. I've never planted before. I will be planting for the 1st time cilantro. your videos are helping me, and making me feel excited about gardening. thanks very much. keep the videos coming.
Love this! Thank you for taking the time to explain and go into depth!
Fantastic advise!
Beets too close together? Sounds like you need a metronome. Lmao. Just your daily dad joke
The first garden I did on my own was tomatoes and hatch green chili. I did a huge garden at the lodge I worked at before though.
Last year 2020 was my first real garden. I grew everything from seeds and it amazed me when I realized what a miracle gardening is. I have learned so much from you!
Small animal bedding is wonderful–NO concern about invasive worms or weeds.
Could you use palm peat instead of straw mulch etc?
I've attempted veggie gardens in various rentals over the years, but the gardens never lasted long – I was restricted as to where I could put the garden, I knew I'd have to move out within a few years at best, I was just inexperienced myself. Now I've moved into my first home that I own – I know I have AT LEAST 10 years. So I've invested in raised garden beds to save my back so I'll actually weed. They are right slap bang in the middle of my backyard with plenty of sun and very easy to get to. I'm now doing the hard part of filling the bastards, but soon I hope to have great gluts of tomatoes and strawberries and carrots and potatoes. 😀
I’ve been growing stuff for a year or two now and I haven’t had any huge harvest, being in a small apartment doesn’t allow much but living in a 10b climate in south Florida, no one tells you that the hardiness zone is only based off of cold. No one says that the plants that northern people grow in the summer, is what I can grow in the winter!!! I love this video, it’s the first time I’ve heard someone actually spell it out and I appreciate it 🙂
What's up? I'm a pretty cool guy.
irrigation? lol my father once set up an irrigation system where he could water a whole line by opening a valve he could reach for while sitting on the porch smoking a cig.
just poke some holes in a tube and place it neatly around where you need it.
Just found your channel and I've been looking up things to grow for my bearded dragon. Can't wait to try!
"Plant things you like to eat"
Hmm, so cows, chicken, and turkey?

My first time gardening I did basil on my dorm balcony and it went so great I had excess basil – WAY more than I normally use! And then it died and I never had that kind of success with basil ever again. I tried more basil, didn't grow. I tried other herbs, nothing. Mint was alright but died and I could never get another one to grow that well again. The only thing I could do was green onions, so I did those like crazy. I never use them fast enough for them not to wilt in my fridge, so I started just planting them to keep them fresh and keep growing them back.
Anyway, I decided to study some container vegetable gardening books and ask around at the farmer's market how everyone takes care of their plants, and planned out a small 3 cubic foot raised bed out of a fire pit ring. And while I'm waiting for it to grow, I'm doing a mass of microgreens which have turned out so well, I need to up my production by a LOT because I keep running out. I plant every Thursday, and when my fire pit ring gets full, I'm gonna start some containers of spinach because that should be good in my area all winter long.
Oh so thats why my basil doesnt grow that much.
I'm a new gardener, I didn't think I'd become one…With my bad hay fever but I'm loving it. I'm in the process of killing my lawn and converting it to a full blown vegetable garden. Your videos have helped me so much!
