Oh I can’t wait to grow sweet potatoes this year. Slips have sprouted and on their way!
Thanks for all the videos you have uploaded. I've been watching for a while now and this channel has inspired me to go and study Horticulture Science at University.
I'm curious as to why you think those sweet potatoes are too large because in the south they regularly grow to 12 to 14 inches long and they consider that normal…?
I had the same ribbon vine on a purple variety I grow. I am growing them as a ground cover and to improve my soil here in AZ. I only planted some slips and some old store bought sweet potatoes one year and now they sprout each year. They have already started to sprout this year… the vines can grow 10ft or more in a season.
Bizarre, this is the second video to drop about sweet potatoes today from my subscriptions. With nothing on sweet potatoes for more than 6 months.
My "mother" just sprouted roots, working on growing slips.
Nice harvest of sweet potatoes and they are so good for us! Thanks for the video Mark.
If there are any cow farms near by give them the foliage.
Bovine love the vines of sweet potatoes.
It's a win win for the community
Still hoping on growing sweet potato in North East Wisconsin. So far only small carrot size. Happy for your results.
Do sweet potato flowers become black seeds?
What was your fertilization schedule?
The groundhogs would have a field day if I planted those in the ground. I tried containers, but I didn't get much of a yield.
Love your videos.
I’m having trouble getting slips by putting the sweet potatoes in a jar so I’m going to do it the southern way and bury them in a pot. And I have to make sure I get the harvest date correct. Thanks for all of your wonderful videos I always learn so much and I enjoyed your enthusiasm about the harvest!
Epic harvest, that’s how I feel when I harvest my sun chokes (Jerusalem Artichokes), great job and thank you for sharing.
WOW !
Mark – Those look tasty. -KJ
That flattened vine looks like a case of ‘fasciation’. I’ve seen it on Foxgloves at the Glasgow Botanic Gardens before. More importantly for me, my first memory of being really intrigued by a plant was finding a fasciated branch on a Spiraea japonica bush as a young boy. It was magical!
That was great – thanks for sharing. A few questions: How hot do your summers get? I wonder it I could grow those varieties in Nova Scotia, where we get mild summers. How will you cure them? If there's already been a frost, how can you keep them in 80 degree temps for 10 days? Finally, you had to disturb the soil to get those out. How hard is it going to be for the soil life to recover from that?
Can you compare the taste for us between the two varieties? I know nothing of the Murasaki.
Great informative videos. Thank you for taking the time to make and share! I'm looking forward to watching all your videos and starting a garden this year!
Out of curiosity, what would happen if you left a sweet potato in the ground over winter? Would it live and sprout in the spring?
Wow. Great harvest.
