what organic?? If anyone knows how the coconut are grown..will findout that all of them are organic…just another way to charge more for something that is not need to certify organic…

Here’s a suggestion: Seed Priming. Useful or not? Which Priming Solutions to use Potassium Nitrate, Polyethylene Glycol, Hydrogen Peroxide, something else? And what is the recommended solution strength and for how long? There’s lots of suggestions available usually based upon non scientific observations but what does the science really suggest?

A few thoughts. The cocnut coir is so expensive, this is really the reason I prefer Peat moss. Also I like to use boiling water to mix, ir absorbs faster and kills any pests and/or eggs. Thanks for doing this, I like your ideas of dding the castings to the top. I usually just sprinkle additional mix, but will try the castings next time.
Sadly, in my area coir is expensive. I can get a 3 cu ft of peat for about $11, coir is at least $15 for 2.5 cu ft. Next year I hope to go to leaf mold as a replacement for the peat in my containers and use coir based seed starting mix since I dont need much.

I've never used coir but over the weekend I prepared a batch with 40% worm castings and 60% coir. Is that a waste of worm castings? Will that be too strong a mixture for the seeds & seedlings?

These coco coir bricks have really helped me too; no longer do I have to try to lift huge, heavy bags of compost when I'm sowing and transplanting.

Mark… How long do your seedlings stay in those cells?
I use plastic cups and they are a real pain when you're talking about 110 plants. But I always felt like they allow the root systems to get much bigger. Also I can't bottom water with my setup.
Also, do you know how much coconut coir it took for your 60 cell tray?
