vermiculite with the manure would also help it hold on to the moisture a bit better
You measure in Dads, that's adorable
You should raise a few peacocks
Do you suppose the same principles apply to dairy cows? One day I want two mini jersey cows so I’d like to learn about dairy animals
Perlite and vermiculite hold water and slowly release it, but it's no substitute for watering throughout the length of the bed
Hey Jess…I have just done my beds…I sprinkled worm eggs along the beds, Then got cardboard and laid it down and then put my compost in. The plan is not to lose moisture in the soil my experiment this season. Hope it helps
I get so overwhelmed and sometimes embarrassed to ask for so much help. It does feel good to see that even you need to ask and feel overwhelmed too.
I’m glad you received so many good answers
I agree with you. 100% you need good moms. BUT in my experience with my cows which isn't much. I don't calf share. With our 1st cow she got frost bite on 1 of her teats that turned into mastitis and it was the staph aureus strain and that can be really detrimental to your heard and very hard decisions had to be made and my first beautiful Jersey cow had to go. My heart was so broken. SO for my cows because I can't take the loss of another cow I pull my calves off. I liked the idea of not having to always milk. I liked the idea of the cow calf relationship. All of that sadly went out the door with my very first cow. Hope that helps others better understand the cow side of things.
You are so transparent about your journey, it is encouraging to see no matter how much experience you have you can still learn something. I love this about gardening, it is a true community.
My permaculture teacher Matt Powers has a new book, Regenerative Soil The Science & Solutions.
that kale that you cook like broccoli rabe we steam and then sauté in garlic and oil great on sandwiches
Kale flowers are actually still good when they open too, but sparingly lol, they're hot… they're nice as a garnish on a salad (I like arugula flowers too)
You got to learn the soil to hold water again, don't put stuff in it (dipers) to do just that..
I can’t tell you enough just how much I love you for all your amazing encouragement
My husband is 6'4"….during the pandemic while standing in the line at the grocery store I always imagine my husband lying on the floor between me and the person in front of me.
I love watching The Stivers.
You'll also keep Miriam because you would have one very heartbroken son if you didn't. (Mom let me know when she's locked and loaded)
Make it chicken runs during winter so chickens scratch it eat it and compost it for u less work cheaper ..idk if someone else has said this but it doesnt have to be fancy can reuse the the fence u make the chicken tunnels will during summer
You need some cameras out in the goat stalls so u don't have to go outside at nite and u can just peek at the camera in the middle of the nite.
"Not yet" is such a good reminder about growing and learning.
We've been eating kale flowers all week.
Every day I get a handful and they are delicious!
Do you pasteurize your goat milk?
Why don’t your goats eat the bark and ruin that pear tree?
When I was gardening I used rabbit manure and hay and leaf dirt
