This video documents the growing process for sweet potatoes from when I started them in a mason jar of water, to when I harvested them months later. One thing I learned…sweet potatoes take a VERY long time to grow, so start them early!
I used these 10 gallon grow bags from Amazon: https://amzn.to/31VFSFK
and the soil mixture as recommended by Mel Bartholomew in his Square Foot Gardening Book: https://amzn.to/3mtEROs
Hope you enjoyed this video!
Why would the little ones complain about growing up and nurturing from a shot glass ?
sooo slow. I guess I'll not throw mine away yet, and wait some more. And start earlier next year!
Great video!! They grow faster in soil, so next time put the potatoes to lay flat in a little soil cover about half way. And they will grow slips in about a month
great info, thanks. i don't eat sweet potatoes but i do grow them for their nutritious greens. the difference in process is, after the sweet potato roots in the jar, plant the whole potato instead of harvesting slips. this method won't produce any potatoes but the lush greens are healthy and delicious.
Very interesting. So how did they taste?
I love your enthusiasm, it is catchy. Keep growing!
I love you mam….
i started mine too early and had spiraling vines growing for months, i wasn't mad at having that run along our shelves.
Thanks for the video! It was as always fun to watch and very informative. I was planning this year to also grow sweet potatoes and will definitely benefit from your experience.
It’s nice to see you outdoors. I’m wondering if you have grown berries hydroponically. It would be nice to have raspberries which are too much trouble to check for bugs
I enjoy watching all of your videos, so helpful !! Many thanks.
The "sweet potato suspended in water" trick is very slow to grow slips. I took 3 small-medium sweet potatoes and put them in a 3 gallon flower pot with potting soil. I had slips ready to transplant in just 3 weeks. Within 5 weeks I had so many slips I was giving them to friends and neighbors.
