Chicago Hardy figs I live North of you but the level between Knoxville Nashville on the plateau north of 40. I can keep them but I have to insulate them in the Winter term wrap them up with string put hay or leafs around them a wire cage around them to hold thing to gather. The wildlife here got all of our heritage bourbon reds so we miss them along with the guineas 1 by 1 in the chickens. I do miss them but not the 3:30 a.m. rooster called but he was a beautiful boy

Include some nut trees in that orchard, they are nitrogen fixers for the fruit trees.
Cedar trees are safe to have anywhere near Apple trees. Asian pears, persimmon and figs are safe to grow that do not need much spraying.
I would have put barrier between her beak and my hand, even a piece of cardboard. I doubt a leather glove would protect against that beak.

My Yukon gold potatoes that I planted back in March, in 7 gallon grow bags are 2.5 ft tall now. I'm glad I only planted 1 seed potato per bag, because I've never had potatoes grow so big, so fast, even with the late freeze we had here in the CSRA.
