  1. I planted three different kinds of asparagus 15 years ago. I am now digging down two feet to get these plants out of my flower garden. I didn't know "they walk".

  2. What if you ended up planting in an area with poor soil — heavy, clay-y, etc? Any way to remediate the soil without disturbing the roots? I have asparagus growing but it's pretty meager even though it's been 3 years and I've held off on harvesting.

  3. I did learn quite a lot! I planted two year roots last year. So this year knew not to eat them and they did send up one or two skinny shoots that I let grow up tall but did not know re cut the females. So tomorrow I am going to look. I also am glad you mentioned not for another year either to let next year go. And then on the third year we can start a few. Very happy to have this info. I am a bit worried mine are not deep enough now, well they are but I did not do a three step covering. However I think ok as they did come up last year with small spears to a few weeks after planting and went to the not really tall fern and this year it was a lot stronger. So fingers crossed. Thanks James and Tuck and camera person 🙂

  4. Watched this after putting my crowns in earlier this year. Interesting approach of earthing up the trench as the spears grow. I put mine in about 1 foot deep, then started to stress that they wouldn’t make it. Happy to say that all crowns have pushed out some nice spears and starting to fern.

  5. Can you trim the roots if they're really really long? I bought some that are twice, maybe three times the length of the ones you planted in the video. Was wondering if I should attempt to get them all in just the way they are, or trim them to a more manageable length.

  6. My sad asparagus plant has been growing on my back porch in a pot for almost 3 years now. This thing has been majorly neglected. I kinda forgot about it. I got my first asparagus this week though! I’m going to transplant it somewhere in the yard. It started as a seed.

  7. Love your videos! What do you do to get rid of bindweed? I keep pulling it, but I know if I can't get the whole root out, it will come back. Help! ( oh I live in N. California…zone 9

  8. Great video. So excited to grow my asparagus. You added a lot of details that a lot of people leave out about how long to wait and showing how to harvest the correct way. Thanks.☺️

  9. Noiice! I do something similar! I spread the roots out in a 360 but I do it flat across the tops of my cloth pots and top dress. theres always settling that happens in pots so your soil level drops down and for watering theres usualy a few more inches of space at the top. just dig in the pot and check and you'll see the roots waaaay too far down, your loosing butt tons of root mass in the pot. When I 1st discovered my new technique i was taking already established plants pots and transplanting them to try to get more biomass in smaller available spaces but it really helps to train your roots for the hardiest possible plants. 🙂

  10. Love your videos! Could you please share what reputable company you used to purchase the asparagus crowns from? Thank you and keep up the great work!!!

  11. I been growing asparagus from seeds. Some plants are two years old and others I planted the seeds this year. What do I do in the fall? Do I cut them to the grown or do I just leave the asparagus as is, all grown? Bright Blessings!!!

  12. I would love to plant Asparagus !!! I don't think I can though !!! I can only plant in containers or a raised bed that is not on the ground (Is it possible to plant Asparagus in containers?)
