Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂 #garden #gardening #raisedbeds

  1. Well I missed out on this but mate, I totally agree! We got a 22ft x2 1/2 ft x 22 inches deep. Its so big, I'm going to have to do a second growing season but that is okay! Can't wait to have sweet potatoes and cukes coming out our ears!

  2. Your voice is so calming, and the sound of the birdies is so soothing, and your advice so appreciated, I have become a fan! Thanks so much for sharing your wisdom with all of us!

  3. Wow – cockatoos flying over – how lucky are you. I am new to your video – just now in fact. I love the raised beds. Never heard of birdies – is this a corrugated iron product?

  4. The container you use is here in the farm. use for horse to drink or cow..if I own the property I lived at.. I can use that too..you can plant anything and like you said, it's good you don't have to bend over,, Viewing from Midwest U.S.A…thank you for sharing your beautiful informative garden..God Bless you sir..

  5. I'm so tired of seeing all the bad news in the world right now. Watching you is a relief, so relaxing and inspirational. I planted tomatoes, mixed lettuce, silverbeat, parsley and potatoes in my raised garden bed and pots yesterday. Thanks Mark for this little bit of normality.

  6. Somewhere around 1:22:00 poison ivy remedies came up, and you can tell that Mike doesn‘t know anything about it. NEVER use fire on poison ivy! It produces a toxic gas. Pull it out with tongs or something, put it in a bag and throw it in the trash.

  7. Hello Mark

I live on the South Kaipara Peninsula, North Island, New Zealand.
I enjoy your easy chat and good humour but most of all you are sharing about growing food.
I am working on a food forest and keep up my motivation by watching you.
