  1. I live in bucks co, and what I do is use a landscaping torch. Multiple flies sit on maple trees, then you go from underneath and turn on the torch for a second. When they feel the heat, they open their wings and the flames burn just enough to kill or injure. The flames won’t even harm the trees and you can get a few hundred no problem

  2. I heard they’ve been seen in California. People here aren’t familiar with the name but I listen to a podcast out of PA (You Bet Your Garden) so I’ve heard it mentioned many times and very aware how bad this pest is. I hope it can’t survive 6 months without water but if it can our trees are already stressed, we don’t need one more thing compounding our problems!

  3. I also posted a link to the "tree of heaven" which is an invasive species AND is a haven for these pests. For some reason, my comment and link to information has been removed!?!

  4. So sad to see this invasive insect! Hope and pray extreme cold will take them out! Thanks for the heads up! I’m just a residential gardener in southwest Indiana but I’m going on the hunt for them this week! Good luck to all affected by this!

  5. Mother nature is fighting back…what one can expect from her?? And humans go and kill the creatures but do not stop to think that humans are ripping what they saw… Be kind to nature and nature will be kind to us… Look around what is going on? Our fault no one else is to blame!

  6. Praying mantises will hunt and eat almost anything, including spotted lantern flies! I have been encouraging praying mantises, finding their egg sacks in the fall and putting them in in my garden each fall. This year I’ve seen fewer spotted lantern flies then I did last year.

  7. have government pay $15 for every egg nest destroyed on video with a provable timestamp and with location. Find 1 an hour get paid $15 an hour just avoid corruption of people breading them to fake claims and fines for anyone shipping them in breeding them within city or county limits unless they get some kind of waiver for resonable cause

  8. Also they expel what looks like black soot. This black soot kills vegetation , trees, whatever the soot covers. It looks like the tree is burnt. It is sweet and honey bees are using to make honey! Yuk! It’s call SFL honey. These flys are extremely destructive ,not to mention, if allowed to propagate, become plague like in that you can’t go outside without being inundated ..like stink bugs .
