Thank you for sharing some of the Old Ways with us. Here outside of
Philadelphia our orange tabby is already getting a full.thick coat in for
winter. Early for him…so.looks like we are in for cold and snow. Bless
all.of you…you impart such joy.
Those persimmon are so small never seen them like that, Are they sweet or astringent?
I'll try that next New Zealand Autumn
Don’t break those lovely teeth of yours with those seeds Patara .Gabriel is just like his Dad and as great sense of humour.
I miss the wild persimmons from back home in the Ozark foothills, so I ordered 2 from Food Forest Nursery last winter and planted them this past spring. I'm hoping to have a small little grove in a few years.
Well, now I have to check out the SW Arkansas persimmons. My first prediction is that my dogs and the birds might beat me to 'em! LOL!
When you see yellow asters blooming on the ditch bank it's 6 weeks to first frost. My lovely grandmother taught me that one!!
That Gabriel. His facial expressions tell it all.
@Patara, I just brought in three persimmons………..all three are SPOONS.. No doubt. No forks, sporks, or knives, but SPOONS.
3 spoons found here today in Blnt, county!
My sister and I do this every year and it had the shovel in it.
This was really interesting!
In Sweden, at least the part I'm from we look at the rowan trees. If there is a lot of rowan berries on the trees we know we´re in for a long, cold winter with a lot of snow. This year the trees in my area have branches absolutely brimming with fruit, almost to the point of breaking the branches.
You're pretty talented seeding those persimmons single-handed.
Balsam even runs like a girl with pigtails ❤️❤️❤️
I'm listening to this at 5am peeling apples to make apple sauce before work ☺️. Our trees are laden down with fruit and up here in the northeast that usually means a harsh winter because mother nature is providing for her children to make it through. With the changes made by the current admin every single day it sure does make for"interesting" times. All I can do is be prepared because "winter is coming".
Our persimmon tree is predicting snow! We live in the northwest panhandle of Florida and I’m a little nervous about the prediction to be honest. I’m thinking it’s going to be cold!
Have you done a video on persimmon jelly or jam? I have never tasted it, but am now intrigued. Thanks for the great folk-lore video on the persimmon seed reading!
This wonderful old folklore is descended from a word a lot of people are mistakenly afraid of – green witchcraft. The reading of Nature's signs needs to be preserved and passed on.
I’ve been trying to grow persimmons and paw paw. So far no luck. A lady I know has a black walnut she hates. She gathers up the nuts and throws them away. This year she asked if she could throw some in my trash bin. Well I told her to bring them over. Then I pulled them out and began tossing the nuts all round my 2 acres. She’s welcome to dump them anytime.
I tried to check a seed yesterday but it was too ripe. Now I wish I had planted some of the firmer ones to see if they would grow.
I live in Texas. My neighbor has as persimmon tree. I’m going to try this! Thank you. It will be fun!
Kid's & I looked at the wooly worms last year & they predicted a mild winter, which we got. This yr haven't seen many, but it's been split out of the 2. And 1 was actually split in it's color, the orange had a black line going thru length wise, so it'll be interesting to see.
Thanks to your video, I now know that we are the proud renters of a persimmon tree! We had no clue what it was and whether it was nuts or what. Forgive me, we're Northern Indiana transplants to NE Arkansas, so we never heard of that. You didn't warn me that those seeds were harder than heck! Finally got one open, and it was most definitely a spoon!!
Just learned something new. Thank you for sharing, God bless everyone
