  1. I totally understand! And it’s not your cow is exactly the right answer lol. We feed grain, it’s a simple thing. My cows and goats get mostly pasture but we feed grain and there isn’t a thing wrong with it. Personal choice just like your personal choice. Some people just don’t understand that lol. Enjoy your cow ❤️

  2. I drank cows milk my whole life until 10 years ago when my thinking changed. I love the gardening and the devotionals, and the encouragement -not so much the animal agriculture. Guess I might be the only one watching here who doesn't eat dairy? I don't understand why humans use milk meant for baby cows. Oat milk and hemp milk are delicious alternatives. Hope there is room here for different opinions. I also don't understand how a cow continues to give milk without keeping her constantly pregnant.

  3. I grew up in a small down but have lived in the city too. I thought I lived in a small town(which it was) but now I'm in a tiny town. lol. It is definitely an interesting change but I absolutely love tiny town living. It is a rural community so I'm a block from the school but the 2 pastures by me are full of cattle so very much country. We get to have any farm animal we want and we are technically in town. Post office and gas station are walking distance but I can have my meat and egg animals plus gardens in my yard! So much win!

  4. Hi Jess! Congrats on getting Hope. She has the most precious face and pretty eyes. I'm glad you don't have to wait. I always enjoy listening to you telling us how you make decisions. You cover everything so well. Thank you so much for sharing!

  5. Would you consider sharing some ways your family eats all the salad greens you grow? We do ok eating baby spinach and big, mature romaine, but I struggle to grow those two things, and my family just isn't so far that into baby salad greens. I'd love some suggestions on how you use them to feed your family!

  6. Amen. You do things your way. Like when i got my Red Wattles I got my registered breeding stock at feeder pig size so we could bond with them and they could bond with us. Some gave us crap about it, and it was much more difficult to find, but it was so much better I think, and it was how I wanted to do it. I think it is cool you have a half dairy/half beef heifer. If it was me I would AI her to beef and milk her if she milked good, but that is up to you. Maybe look for a beef breed that is faster growing to help with the Jersey side of the genes.

  7. My little Dexter cows just don’t look good on just grass and alfalfa pellets so they get a bit of grain. They had had that diet before so we kept to it the first year then we tried just alfalfa pellets and hay and they just didn’t look as good. So we went back to a bit of grain with the alfalfa

  8. When you follow God, he knows your heart. He opens the right doors at the right time. Hope was meant to be. Meeting Hannah at the right time, in the right place, in the right season, is God's hand in your life.
Hope might have quirks, but God brought you all together. Trust Him, even if there are quirks.
Thank you for sharing your journey!!
Praying for all of you! You are such a blessing to my journey!

  9. Congrats on finding a cow!! I had one carrot that spouted this fall and its first true leaves were eaten by something. The first stalky leaves were still there so I decided to see if it would rebound. It did. I took a clear plastic cup and covered the plant. The clear plastic lets the sunlight in and cup keeps anything from getting to it. Just a thought for your cabbages.

  10. I assure you with the heat coming on – a good percentage of Australia is not bothering to plant either. 40-50 degree weather coming and my area has already had 4 hailstorms this fortnight. I now leave planting for autumn/winter and the two weeks of spring. Time now to just try and nurse some flowers through and plant natives. 🙂
