Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂 #garden #gardening #raisedbeds

We've been applying Queensland Organics Organic Xtra to our macadamia trees for around a year. Its good stuff. It comes in pellets and the trees seem to like it. Its also sold at a good price which is a bonus.
I haven't done this before and usually put in the compost but will try with brussel sprout and broccoli that was taken out. Does it matter if I am planting some something that you would usually avoid growing together, such as tomatoes and brussel sprouts not to be grown together, as I'm about to plant tomatoes?
Did anyone else see the hamburger spewing lettuce?
Bless you Mark @5:27 – BTW, how do you tackle allergies? Do you have allergies when working in the garden?
I can't wait to see how your corn comes out as here in the US we are told to plant it 2.5 to 3 inches deep ( a little past your second knuckle). This helps the plants have a deep strong root system. Also you may have stunted plants if all of the seeds germinate ( due to lack of space). I hope it goes well for you. I haven't seen many videos of corn doing well in raised beds. You may want to think about drip irrigation. And maybe a trial patch in the ground seeds space 8 inches or so apart in rows about 10 inches. 2 seeds per hole. Also if you pre soak the seeds it speeds up the germination. Love watching you. And want the best for your growing efforts.
Gosh mark: that was a bloody good video!!!!
So how would mulch if you don't have a mulcher ?
This was great advice, thank you!! You’ve also reminded me I need to get my corn in!
Look forward to seeing the progress of the corn mate.

NO NO NO, cut off plants at ground level, leave the roots in which keeps the ground loose/channels for the next roots to follow, plus the roots are food for all the worms and Microbes, healthy bacteria. We like your videos………………………………………………..Ken&Bev.
It looked like you were nearly chipping your hand at first.
you get a like when you mentioned your shout out to support local small business

When I got my C7, a couple of instructions were; don't move it with the engine running (engine oil) and don't put anything dirty through it (blunts blades). Have you had any issues associated with this? Not trying to be a jerk, I love your channel.
What version of chipper is that? I also have a chipper I’m wondering if that’s possible with any chipper I’m scared of clogging mine
Ok soldier
I kind of done the same thing this arvo after I pulled all the old shit out but just put the catcher on the mower and run over it.
Fabulous video. I planted my zucchini, cucumber, and bean seedlings today, and I remember seeing in your other videos that if we have to use bought products (fertilisers, compost, seed raising mixes) use good brands. I am pleased to see that my seedlings had the best start using the same products as yours :). Thanks for your inspiration! I'm hoping to get soil delivered for my other raised bed tomorrow so I can plant my tomatoes 🙂
Hi Mark when I remove my crops each year I use loppers and cut the tops off so the worms can eat the root balls. But also the way you are doing it with the shredder the worms will get the benefit of the complete plant. I do not have a shredder so I comport all of my garden waist. John Knowles Canada
Hydroponic it is then.
Fabulous video !!! Question: Does the quality of the water you water with effect plants? We have high mineral content in our hard water. Is this harmful?
Cookie Monster!!
Does anyone else see an unimpressed frog in the thumbnail? Just me?
You make everything look so easy and fun! I love your videos and have learned so much from watching. I am sharing with everyone I know who shares the love of gardening. Keep up the wonderful work!
Hi Mark – Love your work. I’m curious as to the origins of the scar on your right arm. Have something similar on my right foot. Would be interested to hear the story. Cheers
