I was sharing about this for my Construct Your Path course I am creating. I kept giving up on my self over and over again when I would get frustrated with my college course work due to imposter syndrome ("I'm told old to be a college student"). Then a lightbulb moment came when I realized that I could do just about anything with the right support and utilizing the resources available to me. including my own internal resources. Got my Masters in Education at 57 years old. Thanks for sharing your vulnerability.
I admire the way you embraced your vulnerability and share it with us. It made it my favorite video ! My heart is with you ❤
"Serial killer of fermenting things"lol your amazing
I do that all the time
You can always dehydrate your starter so if you kill your active one, You can just activate another one 🙂
What a sweet, sweet boy. Naming piggies and getting peed on, and just going with the flow. <3
I am that girl, I have made everything time and then when its all in place I am calling my 23 year old to see if they have any fresh flour at the fire station and could he run it ny the house for me… yep…
I think Ben is going to be farm vet.
Sourdough is so forgiving. You can revive them unless they are pink or red like blood. Even dark liquid on top, called hooch, can be poured off. After you pour it off feed it twice a day for a few days. You can store it in the fridge. They say to feed it once a week if it is in the fridge. You allow it to warm up, feed, let sit a few hours, and back into the fridge. Even neglected in the fridge these can be saved. I love to also use a pinch of rye flour if I've neglected it. I'm not above a small pinch of yeast. Mine goes days without feeding, poor baby…. Also give it a name because it's a pet. Mine is named Everest.

I will admit that I am a failure at sourdough starter and usually do not give up! After watching Rose Red Homestead and her creating Poolish and Biga which is a starter created the night before and left on the counter to ferment. I no longer feel like a failure, but found a solution! Many blessings and love all your little farm boys! ❤️
The second part of this, bless me with that preaching darlin! Needed this!
Thank you for sharing this! I was close to tears because it hit home for me. I definitely feel more encouraged now after seeing this video.
Jovial has einkorn and you can order their products off Amazon, and they have YouTube videos. That’s what I’m going to try Einkorn. Getting rid of gluten and einkorn is the purest from what I’ve heard. I’m trying, like you, to make new choices. I love your little boy, that was joyful to see his happiness.
You’re quite an amazing person! I love watching your channel and have recommended you to all my sisters
I used to do this many years ago. I enjoyed it while it lasted. Summer time was the hardest, we were not home to take care of it.
hmmm sounds like you've been reading Atomic Habits!
Layla is my daughter's name and she wants a pig so badly one day. She's only 5 but has also caught the farm life dream like the rest of our family. We hope to have our own farm one day.
This is beautiful. Thank you.
Love the message, Jess!
Our piglets were born a week after yours. We got our mangalitsa from the same people you got yours.
I… KNOW… THE SOLUTION… YOU NEED.
(That's what I was going to write before I read the comment from Sherrie D. She is SO RIGHT. That's another Solution.)
Here's the Solution that came to me, which I believe will be perfect for you.
FIRST, put your sourdough starter jars RIGHT NEXT TO your Chemex coffee brewer.
Next, start a List of Morning chores to get done before you go out to feed livestock. Put that List in front of your Chemex.
This way, you have something to read while you're brewing your morning coffee…. and the first thing on that List will be to check your Starter(s) and proceed to the next step according to how it's doing.
You might start a basic sourdough starter log (print out an empty spread-sheet, put it on a clip-board and keep a date-stamper tied to the clip-board with a pretty ribbon), so your Morning Chores List says "Check Sourdough Starter Log." and the Log is on the wall behind the Sourdough Starter… and the Starter is right there next the Chemex, which you're brewing all-important hot caffeine beverage in. Cuz you KNOW you're going to be brewing that coffee every morning… right?
So, that's my Idea. Whaddya think? Worth trying?
