VIDEO: Excited About More Perennials For 2022

I have been very excited about out success with perennial cut flowers this year, and so, we are planning on adding a lot more to the flower farm for 2022. Join me in flipping through the Van Noort wholesale catalog, and chatting about some of the plants we are hoping to add. And some of the big changes to the farm for next year.

  1. Great to see & hear from you again, been rooting for Serena!  Agree with a previous comment, maybe you'd be better selling the veg through a box / CSA scheme and sell the flowers at the market.  Also, your farm stand should do better over time with the veg still available.  Customers are more likely to return for food rather than flowers / an impulse buy once they know it's there.  Also agree that you'd do better with some signage on the road before getting to your stand, more colour / a mural on the fence / flowers growing along the fence all could help but great to be up and running!! You're doing great though, enjoy seeing you two so much!  Hope Serena's health keeps improving, keep your shins up!

  2. You are so lucky to have such an agreeable and supportive husband! I know this benefits both of you in the long run but it's pretty sweet to be able to have a little bit of a free rein to get whatever you think that you want or need. You guys look perfect for each other

  3. To try and keep grasshoppers down would you consider using a biological insecticide?  I think that there are a couple of spray options that could help.  Also, though the hens you had previously didn't help with that, could you keep ducks / geese instead?  They would need some supervision but could help…

  4. My husband is my watchful eye on me in the garden because of my health.
My blood pressure can not keep up when im doing physical activity, especially in the sun or heat.
Its called syncope (i have neurocardio issues) & have a tendencies of passing out and having mild seizures, but i reused to give up gardening.
So i take tons of water and liquid iv hydration stuff and stay our during hot times.
Also, i tent to scoot around on the ground instead of constantly getting up & down

  5. Good to see you looking better, Serina. Do you think some of your dried flowers would sell in the roadside stand? Perhaps you could sell some priced by the stem so you don’t have to make bouquets. Also wanted to mention that Laura on Garden Answer grew bush cucumbers this year and they were very productive. The variety was Salad Bush. Grows like a zucchini, not a vine. If memory serves she got 200 off of two plants. I wrote down the variety so I can buy some seeds for next year. They were long dark green cucumbers, not short pickle type. She said they were very tasty. Hope you get your medical issues resolved soon.

  6. Yes Please take us along on any trips you guys go on, I love being an armchair traveler. I like t-shirts with the image on the back, I put mine on the back, mostly because I feel it's easier for someone to study the back while in line, awkward looking at someones chest. Just wondering how'd you do selling pumpkins, so many varieties now and a pretty low maintenance crop, just a thought. More people are growing their own veg now as well. I see Nicole at Flower Hill Farm is selling her flowers at some really nice stores now, might be another idea to look into.?

  7. Thank you for this video! Would you guys please consider doing another video on your most profitable flowers from this season? I saw the one from 10months ago with flower farm..but I was wondering if there where any changes or updates this season. Thank you ❤

  8. I dunno if YouTube is broken but I’m getting an ad every three minutes while I watch this… no kidding, I timed it, 3 minutes. I hope you’re getting plenty of ad revenue for that,

  9. so awesome that you're coming to the Island! Bring your rain gear though…you remember the rainy fall/winters, right? Phosphorescence is so cool – hope you have an opportunity to see it – and you don't have to jump in, you can be on a dock and swish your hand around…even a stick. Mayne is one of my favourite islands – accessible but "undiscovered".

  10. Given that a big proportion of your farmer's market customers are the tourist/seasonal crowd rather than the year-round locals, it makes sense that a specialty item like flowers would be more popular (e.g. maybe someone doesn't buy flowers every week at home, but they will while on holiday). I wonder if more exotic vegetable choices (ie. to appeal to the "buy something special" frame of being on holiday) and snack-oriented veggies (i.e. to eat at the beach, picnic, or on a drive) would capitalize on that type of holiday customer mindset?

  11. What if you had a much smaller bouquet to give FREE if someone spends $50 on food? Still sell your larger beautiful bouquets, but have a few limited small ones to offer (while supplies last) for anyone who spends $50 on produce sales.
