Hi, Al. Beautiful ! Greetings again from Dunn co. WI. I just want to let you know that I grew green Oaxacan corn a couple years ago here , and it did VERY well, in spite of a new, no-till garden it was planted in which had compacted soil beneath and only a little hills of compost to plant into and then mulched to keep from drying out so quickly as it got established. I was exhausted from moving again, then got 2 tick diseases, so, everything was NOT done as nicely as I'd wanted to, but most things did really well, especially the corn. Thought it's roots would be too shallow and it would come down in a bad storm once, but it held it's own ! Most stalks had 2 ears, some had 3 which were among the smaller ones then, but many of the 2 eared and a few 1 eared, were very good sized ears of corn ! It tasted decent as a sweet corn stage ( I like mine a bit chewy and not too sweet ) and I let the rest ripen fully, but the birds were starting to really eat them ( ! ) so I had to finish drying indoors. I had looked over all the varieties in my seed catalogs ( I don't get Baker Creek catalogs, so idk what varieties if any they may have that I didn't know about/ look over ) & the Oaxacan seemed best for a northerly climate..
