  1. Patara, thank you for this information. The sad thing is the thought that people who chose to ignore the signs will be coming for the preps of others. Unfortunately, I live in a senior community and I pray that we will be okay. Get to know Jesus and get prepared people.❤

  2. I "prep" but realized a couple years ago that what I did just wasn't nearly enough. I raise my own chickens for eggs, I have planted fruit trees and fruit bushes, I grow my herbs, grow random vegetables each year, keep extra rice and dry beans as well as an emergency seed bank. But a couple of years ago when people were literally beating people up over toilet paper and shelves were empty, I realized I wasn't doing enough for my family.

I am not Mormon, but someone recommended to me a guide written for the LDS church and I live by that prepping guide now. It's called the LDS Preparedness Manual. It's meant to guide you to have a 2 year supply of shelf stable food for each member of your family. I downloaded it for free and printed out the schedule and list of needed items (such as medical care, hunting, etc). I don't use anything else in it. Been using it for over a year now and I feel comfortable and confident that my family is now prepared for anything that comes along short of my town literally exploding lol.

Sadly, I know that not everyone can afford to follow the guide… it's set to cost an extra $30ish per week (yet today that's more like $90ish)…. But I encourage anyone that can afford to, even if that means cutting back on non-essential stuff once a week or month… to find a good guide like this, or use this guide, to ensure you and your family will survive what's coming!

  3. My comment is to anyone reading this and I'm backing up what she's saying. It's easy to get overwhelmed especially if you haven't started setting things back.
Don't be discouraged, just remember that it's important to start NOW with the means you have available to you.
We've been getting things ready but it's taken time to get what we've got. I've got a freeze dryer fixin to be delivered this afternoon (!!!!), but it's taken 3 MONTHS TO GET IT, people. I'm saying we ordered and paid for it over 3 months ago. We've got a 1/2 cow I'm fixin to cook up and freeze dry. Again, it's taken, AT A MINIMUM, THREE MONTHS to get this far. It's going to take more time to get it properly done. We've got an ESTABLISHED flock of chickens in the backyard and it's taken almost two years to make sure they're ESTABLISHED and reproducible and healthy. I'm getting ready to start planting my recently-deceased mother-in-law's garden beds and the portable greenhouse she got on a hunch, using my chicken's poop for fertilizer.
Y'all, I'm not even that prepped, I've been getting ready for the long game, one baby step at a time. The sooner you start, the further you will get. Buy those five cans of food, more if you're able to, and you'll be on the path to covering your a$$. God bless y'all.
P.S.- freeze dried foods can last for years and it retains most of its nutrients, unlike dehydrated food, which loses about 70% of nutrients due to the process itself. Make everything you've got count as far as you can.

  4. I so agree! I'm in a small town but in a tiny little (but adorable) apartment. Having a garden, etc. isn't an option, but with God's grace I've still been able to prepare. I've only started this past year and it's AMAZING how fast it all adds up. It doesn't take long at all. And it isn't only the SHTF scenario's but it could be a broken bone, an illness, job layoff, and so many other things. There's a lot of things we can all do without, but food isn't one of them and there is comfort knowing that there is something put up for the future.

  5. They stole everything MCC ⛳ screwed me out of my unemploymentment Mike Dewine got my money in his lottery taxes, kids, everything I own stolen from my house the sheriff's laugh stock up on self defense tools freedom fighters

  6. (For reference please see my other comment on this thread.)
One reason to start getting things ready NOW, while you CAN, is this: your plan may not go as planned. We ordered and paid for a large freeze dryer over THREE MONTHS AGO. We paid in full when we placed the order. The wait time was 10-12 weeks. It took a bit longer than that to ship it out.

The freeze dryer arrived and left about 20 minutes ago. Due to a dent and a bulge in the actual unit, as well as one damaged box and one with a crush mark, I had to reject the shipment. I cried, in front of the delivery driver. Can't be helped, but dammit, it's a setback and a disappointment. A four-month plan off the tracks. SO, new plan. While we're waiting for a replacement to get shipped out I'm going to get all my meat cooked up and frozen so when it does arrive I'll be ready to get it running from the start. Dammit.

  7. people don't really need meat for protein I have only about 2% meat in my yearly diet and I'm healthy. i love it just don't care for what i feel like when i eat it….that said,,,,we DO NEED clean WATER get a zero filter too!!!

  8. Funny you said that you were going to build up your beds this year because I had decided the same thing to let the beds rest because next year I think they will be more important.

  9. 10 years ago I heard the warning and started prepping. I had so much extra food in my basement I threw out hundreds of dollars worth of canned goods because they ended up getting rusted

  10. I would add one 25 lb bag of rice, and two bags of dry beans to that. Don't forget pet food if you have pets. If you aren't at a well, water filters would be a good idea as well.

  11. There's one thing I have found that is essential to my pantry is tomato paste. You can make soup, juice, ketchup, sauces, chili…the possibilities are endless. So definitely consider adding tomato paste to your pantry, along with everything else. God bless!
