Last spring we bought 2 new caterpillar high tunnels, and in this video we will show you all the steps to completely build a hoop house. We love these types of greenhouses because they are so simple to put up, that you can move them around the property as needed. Also, they just really work – easy to vent out the heat in the summer, easy to hold in the heat in the cold, they are our favorite type of greenhouse to grow in. If you have ever considered investing into a hoop house, we highly recommend going for it! You won’t ever regret having a high tunnel.

I noticed you guys still till in order to prep your beds have you considered no till in order to combat the weeds?
I hope to build a hoop house with 16' cattle panels.
Cost estimate: $350 – $400.
I'm curious… since the UK has just been hit by three consecutive storms, with winds over 100mph… what sort of winds do your tunnels cope with? I know the much larger structures tend to survive here, but I've seen some devastating results from our winds on smaller ones.
Do you close off the ends or leave them open? If you close it, what structure is needed under the plastic?
I wonder if draping some shade cloth over your lovely window greenhouse might make it more useful at those really hot times of the year. ? Love your channel! I would love to come and 'intern' for you one season! 🙂
So are you saying that you can plant tomatoes and peppers in the hoop houses a month earlier than you would normally? I'm in zone 6b. My goal is to be able to plant them out April 1st. Too ambitious?
Great video! I didn't quite understand how the ropes will work. I get that they help hold the plastic down. How do you roll the plastic up when you want to? Sorry, I'm just mad interested because I'd love to have one of these. Mine would probably have to be shorter in length. Thanks Serina and Ian!
What about rain water, do you have a way of irrigating rain water to your high tunnel?
Loved the video, music and variety of shots. It’s a unique look at building a caterpillar tunnel , thank you for sharing!
Wow…I thought you would be growing anemone and ranunculus in one. I bet you could with a second layer of frost blanket.
What about stability in the wind? Our area has four seasons: winter, wind, summer and wind. With wind during winter and summer, too. But I really want a garden tunnel….
Did we get glimpses of THE EMPLOYEE!?! Loving the footage from the summer in these winter videos! 🙂
Love these tunnels. I live in the states where can I buy the kits for these? Thanks.
Have you guys looked up the benefits to no till gardening and how beneficial it is to the soil life
Please take this as constructive question : are you not losing 1/3 of your covered growing space with your very wide pathways ? Here real estate is hard to come by and to make good use of covered space, commercial small scale growers use narrow pathways and even plant the whole width in the back, pulling up plants as they past mature, making patways this way, by thincking of succession. Then when large summer plants like tomatoes go in, larger pathways are needed.
Great idea, I am going to be using a small polytunnel for the first time this year and I'm already thinking about other options with more flexibility for the future. Thanks so much for sharing your experience with these Hoop Houses.
wow can't believe how warm and snowless you guys already are. here in Qc we are still totally white and well below zero during the day. Such a big difference even though we are both in roughly the same Canadian zone!
You live in the perfect altitude for growing. I'm about 1200 feet higher close to Diamond Lake, Washington with packed snow on the ground still and a temperature of 1* F this morning at 6:40am. I would ike to put a catapiler tunnel in to grow in this year but have to find where to purchase the hoops in my area. Thank You being on youtube.
Do you have a link for the tunnel components?
What company did you buy the hoops?
Sooo exciting to see this… lots of information
New sub here! I’ve been loving your videos! You guys are an inspiration. 😀
Was this actually filmed recently? It looks way too green and nice outside! Still really cold in Ontario.
