VIDEO: Baking Soda Pesticide and Fungicide Spray

Baking Soda Has Many Uses…..how about as a pesticide? Or maybe a fungicide? Today, let’s look at how to use Baking Soda, or Sodium Bicarbonate, in the garden for an effective treatment against aphids, whiteflies, thrips, caterpillars, spider mites as well as prevention of fungal outbreaks such as powdery mildew.

There are a few caveats (of course), but as always, we’ll cover it all and let you make the most informed choice for your garden!

2022 is most definitely the Year of the Garden! We deserve it after the last little while, and growing our own food and self sufficiency is just the reward we need to get back on track! For more information on all your gardening questions, check out my other videos!:

  2. Do you think this would work on a killer outbreak of powdery mildew on apple trees? They were ok 1 day and literally, sick the next. We are having a crazy rainy season, terrible winds and spells of unbearable heat (located in the Andes at 3000masl). The trees had wonderful fruits in spite of the mildew, but they are done for our summer. Someone suggested Sulphur, but I am not sure. Thanks.

  3. Thanks so much for showing soany things. I thought I'd have to put a lot more time and trials towards solving last year's problems in the garden. You're a life saver! I feel so much better about trying cakes and zukes again. Iay try this on potatoes, as they always have a beetle outbreak on them in mid summer, here in NS

  4. I am grateful for this video. I do have a question. What about neem oil. I Had powdery mildew problems last summer and bought It but I’m not sure how well it worked. Maybe I don’t understand its function but I would sure love to see a video about it. I will absolutely use the baking soda cocktail because I already use baking soda for so many other household things. Thank you

  5. Trying to find a fix for powdery mildew was driving me nuts last year. Thank you for showing me a way to keep it from getting started in the first place! Love your channel!

  6. Hello, I used sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) for a long time to fight powdery mildew and insects, but after reading that the salt it contained was bad for plants, I stopped and I switched to potassium bicarbonate. It has the same effect, and you use it in the same dosage as baking soda.

  7. So now my question is, how do you know what's out of balance in your garden if you keep getting aphid outbreaks. I had a terrible problem with them on my Okra last year but mostly because ants kept farming them on the plants. I finally got rid of a lot of the ants with a frosting/borax mix dropped by the tablespoon on the ground near the ant runs. It was never placed in the garden beds. But why did I have this problem in the first place? We had some very hot droughty weather, but I always kept the garden watered–but never the grass in the rest of the yard. I'm not fond of wasting water on grass. Could it have been the dry conditions in the surrounding yard that caused the ant/aphid problem? Is it something about the okra itself? I'd be grateful for any insights you might have.

  8. I love all the handy tips you share , thank you so much. I have been following you for about a year
Last year was my best ever in the garden , I had so many beans, tomatoes and lettuce that I was able to
Share it with the neighbours, really put a smile on a few faces including my own . Good feelings ❤️

  9. Indeed it is a miracle and cheap. You can clean your hair with it instead of shampoos you can mix it with water and drink it to correct your pH by doing that you are neutralizing diabetes cancer will not grow in a alkaline environment it fights kidney disease it cleans it takes care of odors it takes care of fungus for heartburn a detox bath relief of bee wasp stings toothpaste deodorant cloth diapers there are literally hundreds of uses natures unique first Aid Remedy Sodium Bicarbonate

  10. That was a complete game changer for me . Hey Jeff last year I put in a few raspberries blackberries and blueberries. they did really well. Will you be doing a video on pruning and prep for the new year . I do not know what to do with them. Thanks

  11. Man, I’m learning so much from you friend. You have a really excellent channel! Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge. I sure need it as a beginning vegetable gardener.
