Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm
Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.
There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

So exciting and inspiring and I am looking at amending my garden, may some winter crops as we are in Autumn now as I am planning an epic summer garden later this year
“You already have the most important thing you need to be a cowboy – COWS. The rest doesn’t matter”. Actually that’s good advice for a lot of different situations in life.

Hey Jess!! Maybe try putting some motion cameras to see if you can get some action when you can’t always have the camera on hand. Just a suggestion . Like the ring cameras work.. just a suggestion!! Love all your videos. I started my seeds based on how you recommended and I too have now seen sprouts of my seedlings!! It’s my first grow; and I’m doing it on and apartment balcony. How I do it just by removing fear and seeing hope.
KEVIN COSTNER!
OMG YOU LUCKY GIRL!
Happy birthday Tony. I pray you have a blessed year. God bless you.
You could put a candle in a glas jar in your mini greenhouse at night to keep the temps up a bit.
Oh girl….while watching one of ur videos last night I heard something that was an unusual sound and guess who was on the back porch….the three little heifers. An unlatched gate will do it every time.
I would love to see your heifer staring at you through the window and then you running at her yelling no not the cabbages.
We use an old crockpot full of water.on low to keep our greenhouse warm overnight…when it gets really cold we cover the greenhouse with blankets as well.
Jess, we have 7 cats in the house so for years I have been growing plant starts in and on my upper kitchen cabinets, lol. Also you my already know this but if you cover your pots in plastic wrap they will germinate much faster. Of course heat mats help too though.
Concrete is really bad for the environment. Rammed earth, clay and straw concrete, oiled with linseed or waxed with beeswax is another ’cleanable’ solution. Wood blocks too.
Putting some thermal mass near the seedlings could help bumps up the average night temperature in the small greenhouse.
I didn’t check my boots once and found a large mouse. Gave me the hibby jibbers. Had to scrub them like crazy before I would wear them again..
Could covering the green house with a solar blanket at night help keep it warm enough.
Hillarious

I’ve never seen a cow’s bag with udders on the back!
