VIDEO: I Bought 1500 Perennial Cut Flowers 😱

My spring Van Noort perennials have shown up, and I bought even more then I remember! This is a lot of plants, and I will be busy getting them into the flower farm, over the next few weeks, but I don’t regret a single purchase. With 80 dahlias, new peonies, hundreds of lilies, an entire farm bed of phlox, and so much more, the gardens this year are going to look better then ever, and there is going to be an abundance of cut flowers!

These plants are a wholesale order from Van Noort, who are a Canadian company based out of Abbotsford and Ontario. They only sell to Canadians and have a minimum order of $500. But they have been a great resource for us as a small flower farm.

  1. I live in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. I started watching your channel last year and you have inspired me to create my own cut flower patch. My goal is to have a bouquet of cut flowers inside weekly. I cannot wait to see your success this year as a cut flower farm; also see your youtube videos flourish so I can steal inspiration of your bouquet making skills.

  2. So glad to see that you are embracing the perennials! As you were unveiling another variety on the screen my florist mind is like pairing stems together playing with color palettes. Those dark burgundy dahlias with the white phlox and the white/pink asiatic lilies. The peach oriental lily with the blue salvia…..yum yum yum so much fun. So jealous!

  3. The Russian sage will take over everything and spread like mad. We’re in the high dessert of Nevada and my 3 plants took over the entire flower bed drowning everything else out! I still love it.

  4. I do love Golden Rod…but, yes, laughing that you had to pay for it because we have FIELDS of it wild here in the Hudson Valley of New York. Same with Phlox. Maybe you should come move here! LOL. Fun watching you unbox this order. I just have my backyard garden so I am smaller scale. But, after watching this I am going to plant a ton more seeds tomorrow. I mean, why have 7 Yarrow plants when I can have 25! Where will I put them…?

  5. I hope you film some of the planting so we can enjoy the fun with you! Bleeding hearts always die back in August no matter where you live so it is not something you are doing to them it's just what they do.

  6. Regarding your dahlias, pre-sprout them in pots. Do not water until they're showing. When you plant them in the ground (or a pot), put bone meal in the hole swished around a bit. Since you are quite hot, give them some shade (cloth overhead is fine) in the afternoon. Regular, but deep, water is better than a bit each day. Your blooms will be smaller if: you don't pinch side buds, you don't fertilize with calcium monthly, you have too much nitrogen (use low nitrogen fertilizer), or you plant too close together. I'm in Beaumont, CA where we get up to 109 F (42.8 Celsius) and we are considered hot and arid. My soil is clay with sand and boulders, so I've dug much of it and amended like crazy. Anyway, if your dinnerplate dahlias have smaller blooms, they can be easier to use in bouquets! Love you guys and Serina, you look gorgeous in pink! Edited to add I have only 63 and they're all different varieties (1 of each). You'll get 2 – 15 stems each week per plant.

  7. I don’t have a flower farm-yet, but I ordered 20 Lavender, Phenomenal from Richter’s, it supposed to be a better variety for our climate. Lavender needs dry feet, which you say you have sandy soil. Love this video, and your one Re 10 veggies, some I’m growing too. Can’t find the zucchini seeds. Where did you get it?

  8. "Fruit punch colors" that's a spot in description of my preference for my own garden. I love the bright vibrant bouquets you show us. It's going to be such a great season.

  9. Oh, Serina, I’m anxious to see all these perennials in bloom. They’re going to be spectacular! Bleeding hearts love shade. The blossoms last a lot longer….and if any go to seed the will self sow….or you can collect the little pods and plant them.

  10. Oh my gosh I’m even more excited because I get my first van noort order tomorrow. Thank you for recommending them last year. I ordered a lot, but since it was late I’m only getting just under half of what I wanted. That’s okay, today I got my first shipment today from Jolly Farmer (Lizzie’s and eucalyptus came today) so I’m busy with that considering I still have a foot of snow.
Thanks for sharing your unboxing. I’m really really excited now. Serena you started a bad addiction in me lol

  11. You should try maybe adding in some Greensand when planting, it may help with water retention, Im using a bunch on my property this year!! Good luck with all these beauties!

  12. i can't take the smell of lillies either. one year a patient at the hospital had some really ripe ones. it hit my allergies so bad that i had to be reassigned to a different patient.

  13. LoL! Johnny's is crying! Oh man. If I had a flower plant business, I'd sent YOU my wholesale list. I do understand tho. On my scale, restriction is for not getting Johnnys 250 or 100 to JUST a mere packet.

  14. Yr crazy girl. Lol Well, in a nice way. Wish I could tlk 2 u in person about some of yr choices.
Some things aren't true of what yr telling yr viewers. Yes, it's good 2 learn from experience but not the ones viewing unless the person teaching says… Hey, this is all trial and error.
Those Sarah B Peonies are beautiful. But they need staking unless you cut them b4 they fully open and always, always,, always it rains within a day or two after opening. But hey girl, they dry beautifully and smell wonderful.
The Phlox are not all disease resistant. David can b for a few years but the last few years we've got alot of powdery mildew. So i wldn't plant them in among other tall perennials. Give them space 4 air flow.
Was wondering about yr health too. How r u going 2 plant all of those? The ones in those bags need 2 get planted asap, open the bags or they will rot after a week unless u refrigerate.

  15. The pink jumpsuit is life changing! You cannot have enough lavender. I use salvia in floral arrangements. I love burgundy candles variety. the stems are burgandy color with purple flowers.
