Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm
Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.
There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

We buy jalapeño pimento cheese here in Alabama that’s great!
I don't know if its anywhere else but around here (NW Ohio) we have pimento loaf which is a lunch meat. I don't care for it but some of my family like it
Cuban oregano ….we call it Thick Leaf Thyme in Guyana South America. It's great for flavoring meat, seafood. We grind it up with onions, garlic , celery, cilantro and other herbs and cook with it daily. Add salt to it and store in fridge . Or you can chop it finely and use on its own. Smells awesome.
Wonderful video. Can you give instructions on fertilizing plants?
The prickly succulent with the redish bloom was a crown of thorns. They get big! And they look ferocious.
Thanks for sharing that fun trip! I’m drooling over your greenhouse!
I've been growing papalo as a cilantro alternative for hot weather.
May I ask what size pots your citrus are in and age of plants. I've got some from last yr but not sure what size pot they need
That was fun. Thank you for sharing. Nice meeting your brother and sis in law. I just love all the dogs! I’m such a dog lover
As a teen it was my job to make pimento cheese every Sunday for Dad's lunches during the week. 2 lbs sharp cheddar cheese, 2 jars peppers, a pinch each is salt & sugar & just enough mayo (Kraft) to make it stick together. ☺️
In Puerto Rico we used in yellow rice, soups, stews, give to much flavor to the food, delicious, love cook with Cilantro and Culantro. Love watching your videos and Learn so much, thank you Jess.
That one with the rosy flowers and thorny stems, is a crown of thorns.
Home made pimento cheese is the best! My mom(RIP) use to make it for our family.
OMG i LOVE the planters tho!! i collect cool planters too, love love love the collection! 😀
Loved this.
My kind of day out…..I could spend hours browsing and spending all my money. I missed Ben's cute face this vlog. ❤ from Barbados!!
In Puerto Rico, we call Culantro, Recao. It’s an absolute must in Puerto Rican and Cuban cooking.
I sat here giggling at the two of you ooing and ahing over the plants. The cactus type plant with the clusters of little red flowers is a Crown of Thorns. I had a huge one for years until my ex son inlaws kid brother decided to water that and other cactus in the house with Coke. A 4 foot tall cactus I'd had for almost 20 years dead in less than two weeks as was the Crown of Thorns. The kid was tossed out a week later when he set fire to the revine next to my house.
I have the urban worm bag. It’s pretty good. Great for condo where I have no outdoor space
I just recently heard about Culantro, since I live in So. Calif where it gets very hot I want to try to find some to try growing. I grew up with Pimento cheese, my mom would put it on celery when we had company over for dinner. Haven't had any for years though, I will have to see if they still make it. Love all of your new plants, looking forward to seeing them growing in your new garden.
Hi, Can you share the botanical name of your Holy Basil? Thanks.
