VIDEO: Unbelievably Easy Way to Be Self-Sufficient in Salad ALL YEAR (SAVE Money)


This video shares what I think is the easiest way to increase self-sufficiency from your vegetable garden. Salads are simple, celebrate the seasons, and are tasty! There are an infinite number of ways to make a salad, and I share the winning formula that will mean any salad you make will be delicious and nutritious. The best thing for me about this is that you can use small quantities of crops and it is zero waste, the only thing left may be some roots or leaves but they can go right back onto the compost or as chop and drop to help build soil health.   2. So many lovely ideas Huw. I have lots of different types of green leaves and herbs in April and also a small variety of aliums….all sorts gets chucked into a salad and a smoothie. I aim to be self sufficient in salad this year by growing lettuce in the house under grow lights…fun!@!

  3. The true taste of the season, healthy and full of nutrients. Maybe not the love at first bite and a kind of unfamiliar… I read several years ago a book, written by Masanobu Fukuoka, that impressed me so much, how he described his path to permaculture and so on…

    Weather is finally warm here in, I am starting my first garden I am so excited. I cleaned the field for a few days, ready to build my raised bed. Been dreaming of this moment for a long time, and learned a lot from you, thank you.

    I love that my garden gives me something everyday. I actually do have lettuce all year – I make sure I always have some mature lettuce. When they start looking like they are bolting or just suffering, I make sure I have some baby lettuces already started. If it is too hot, i grow them in a shady or cool location. So I always do have lettuce for when we want a few leaves for our sandwiches or to graze.

    I also make sure I have radishes, beets, chards, etc, in the garden for when we are looking for a vegetable dish. Even if it is just a few brassica leaves or a beet with beet greens or a radish for garnish.

    Once the garden is growing, there is always something to eat. Love gardens. I especially love just grazing through them – a leaf here, a flower here. Homegrown greens have so much flavor that I don't need that much to feel as if I have had a meal.

  8. Watching this video for fist time after making a salad for dinner last night of beetroot, lettuce & handful of parsley from my garden with fetta, olive oil & balsamic vinegar. Missed the opportunity to add nasturtium & borage flowers, and a few mint leaves & chives from the garden. Thanks for reminding me to forage first! A couple of tiny zucchinis would have been good also.
