Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm

Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.

There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

  1. Thank you so much for all of your beautiful and encouraging messages!! Any chance that you’ll bring back the “turn your waiting room into a classroom” design back on your next preorder?

  2. Hi Jess I remember couple years ago you talked about a delivery service a program where you can get mushroom mulch and mulch in your area do you remember the website?!? I love your Chanel ❤

  3. I absolutely need your shirts for when I go to my community garden this summer. This season I spent months and months learning everything I can about gardening even though I’ve been gardening for 8 years, this is the big harvest year! But big harvests will come with a big problem: I’ve never preserved anything before!! I got the growing part down. But this is the year I actually want to keep what I grow and preserve it for my family. I want to can, ferment, dehydrate, vacuum seal, you name it! Help guide us preservation newbies!

  4. I watch Mary's Nest too, great channel, she explains things so well. First time I made apple cider vinegar, I watched her and used her recipe and it turned out. I was pleasantly surprised.

  5. I just love to see what you do with all that you grow and raise! Being a home kitchen baker since I was young, (like 8 when I could make oatmeal and cinnamon toast lol) I love seeing what can be done with REAL food since my desire has now changed to growing and using REAL food. It can be discouraging when you are so used to baking cakes, cookies, pies, cinnamon rolls, breads etc and wondering if you'll ever find healthy replacements. I love your use of the milk. Right now I have only chickens producing, but 13 hens are producing anywhere between 9 and 11 eggs a day and that multiplies fast! I can only eat so many omelets! lol I have done your frittata and quiche and love them both. Maybe its time for me to make a few pies or some banana pudding.. hmmm lol Thank you for showing your inspiration in the kitchen! God bless!

  6. Some things I add to bone broth that really balances flavor no matter the recipe. I put a lot of Bay laurel lots of them, whole allspice berries, juniper berry, pepper corns… they are astringent and balance the wonderful meat flavors…

  7. I'd love to hear more about the medicinal herb for urinary track health! I have a chronic illness, interstitial cystitis, and it'd love to know more about natural, organic healing

  8. Roots and Refuge Farm, Mary's Nest and Clutterbug are the VLOGs that got me through the pandemic. Calm, helpful, encouraging, wealth of information and inspiration. A little less of what I do not need and a little more of what I do. Long way to go, but have come a long way. Thank you Jess and Miah!

  9. Hello! I apologize if this has already been asked (or if this is painfully obviously and I just missed it). Is there a way to find sizing info on the shirts? Specifically the tanks? I could not find specific measurements on the B-Unlimited pre-order.

  10. I'm hoping that y'all see fit to do one or two tote bag designs in the future. That would be a very useful item for me. After a bad car accident, I have to use a "rollator" walker and having extra storage on the walker is a wonderful aide. My garden is strictly a container garden now and finally 12 years after my accident I am gardening again on a small scale. It has been interesting to figure out how to haul around gardening supplies while using the rollator. I often think that gardening is mostly an endeavor of problem solving. With the exception of the live Jess & Miah videos, I'm finally all caught up in real time now. Despite that I'm getting older (62), and somewhat disabled…when I think about growing things, I get "butterflies" of excitement. I know I'm rambling but maybe something will be useful. A few years ago, we bought two large plastic fish safe, food safe pond shells. It has taken about 8, 1.5 cubic feet of soil to fill one of them. They are elevated on cinder blocks, have multiple drain holes, and before filling with soil, have been lined with window screen material over the drain holes to keep out fire ants. So, tomorrow I'm going to put in a couple of squash seeds and as many as seems reasonable Baby Bubba Okra seeds. Wish me luck!
