Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm
Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.
There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

Do you have arches in your empty spaces? I just love it when I see your Kajari melons and noodle beans and cucumbers! Are you doing the Malobar Spinach this year? I can't remember even though I've seen your seed video lol. I just love seeing all your vertical gardening beauties! I will always recommend climbers lol
Hello great video. I got a question. Can you freeze okra and bell peppers and tomato. How do you do. Like do you have to boil them or just cut them up and freeze them. Im not sure never did it before. Thanks for your help and time.
Do you sale some of your stuff you don’t need
Frog legs for dinner LOL
PLanting enough so you cannot notice the ones dying! I love it and had a good chuckle. The farm is looking gorgeous, healthy and growing
Happy Birthday Asher. Looks like it was a fun evening anyhow.
It's sad that you couldn't get Hally grafted onto Hope, but it doesn't always work, and you gave it a good try. It sounds like she is doing well where she is now, so everything turned out fine.
Maybe plant some root vegetables in your extra space. I’ve noticed that people have been doing lots of recipe’s with beets lately!
From a experienced hand milking person. Put a brick in Hope's feed bin it will slow her down having to eat around it. Hope this helps.
Grow pumpkins in extra space. They are so fun to decorate fall harvest celebration, and they store well to feed animals like pigs and chickens into winter.
I have a quick question. I planted Carrots and okra in a raised bed and I noticed that I have a lot of rolli-pollis is it ok for them to be there or do I need to get rid of them? Thanks
I can hear the Barn Swallows in the pasture in their evening flights for the night bugs…
Such a sweet sound at sunset!
Thank you for helping me dare to dream. You are a truly gifted teacher.
I was doing really good until you said “bless my own heart” I just flat out laughed so hard! Thank you
Happy birthday, Asher!
Hey Jess, with that extra garden space you mentioned, have you already planted Celeriac in your garden (also called celery root)? It can be eaten cooked or raw. We like to make it like mashed potatoes or roasted into french fries. The leaves can be dried and used in soups, stews, or sauces for added flavor. Excited to see whatever you choose. I love the idea of donating some of the extra food your family won't need. I romanticize a world where everyone can grow something and share it or trade it with each other. Real food is free!
How do you keep kids and animals from not stepping on eggs in the nest?
Yes! I picked up some sad looking after Easter hydrangeas from the clearance rack. I wasn't sure they would make it. $2 each, 3 weeks later, they're thriving! Gotta love it.
How about planting artichokes
I had to chuckle with you about the "person" behind you. I just set up our first Greenstalk on our back deck and have been startled a few times now, haha. Thank you for the discount code, by the way. We are loving it. A momma Junko bird built her nest in my potted oregano on the same deck and we startle each other regularly. She also does the wounded dance to draw me away. Such a joy.
Happy Birthday, Asher!!
