In this video, I explain what happened so far to our raised bed garden and fruit trees in constant rainy weather. How has the drainage gone and I share some tips on gardening in wet conditions?

Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

This rain….i am over it here on the Gold Coast. The only plants doing well are grass and weeds, no winter crops in as yet as my seeds just rotted before germinating. However, the pumpkin vines are loving the wet
I have a solution. Let's trade our California dry weather for your wet one!
(Btw, hope you mates get a long relief from the rain.)
i love your weather update posts Mark! its so interesting for me! good luck to you!!
Thanks for your video. Living in California, USA, we never get too much rain (these days we seldom get any), but I'll keep your tips in mind.
CHEMTRAILS
Time to make some Moats lol. Channel that water somewhere else. I can't believe how much rain you guys have had. Seems like its def a country of extremes. Extreme heat/fire or the opposite end of the spectrum. I hope it dries up a touch for you very soon.
Have you ever thought of putting some poly tunnels over your beds to shed the rain?
OMG. Please send the Rainclouds to me. it is so dry Here. normally we should have had Good Rain Here at this season but it is so dry.
live in clay i add a big load of sand and pea gravel…..amazingly good
green houses for the smaller plants perhaps
Ahh tell me about it!!! Living on the Gold Coast and seriously missing the sun!!!
Hi Mark -in Canada on the west coast, we didn't get any warmth until the past few days – I had to rush out and get into the greenhouse to plant seeds quickly. Now we expect more rain so all I have to do is keep them watered. 2022 will be a year when we go from winter to summer without a spring. Draining land is really necessary in high rain climates. Thanks for the video – I learn so much from you but so far have not buried a kangaroo although I am burying stale eggs in the garden.
When Europe is becoming Australia hot, Australia is becoming Scotland wet!! Mother Nature tries as well as She can to regulate the mess we've created …
Best luck to you Mark, and to us all!
Great episode!
Good evening Mark. you may be aware of this fact or possibly not. Im in Zone 7a we have relatively the same temperate heat climate though it seems you've been getting much much more rain then myself. I have a possible solution to your wet boggy garden areas. there is a tree called the weeping willow, that guy absolutely loves wet soggy grounds. if you plant two of them within some distance of your banana trees it willsurely keep them from perishing due to iminent drowning. Take care and have yourself a great week.
Love your videos. I live in Southern California 10a climate zone. Raised Birdie beds and fruit trees. Huge temperature swings were very confusing to plants this past winter/spring. Spring budding much earlier. Atmospheric river drenched us, some plants dampened off as yours did. Learning to adjust soils, mulches and amendments. Thanks for your great info.

Nice
Feel your pain Mark. Doesn't look better on the other side of Brisbane either. The mud looks more like sludge… Not only does the constant water bombing drowning the crop but also brings on more slugs etc. We miss the sunshine. Let's just soldier on, Mate!
time to invest in a pair of gumboots Mark
Wow Mark that is a Reed Avocado that you picked. I am growing one from seed at the moment at Geebung, but waiting for this Rain Event to be over before planting. Sorry but we are supposed to have a wet winter as well from what I have researched.
Always love your vids and I wish I had some help for the lounge suite.
yeah our gardens are just like yours and if you break the surface it stinks is that normal for up here we also have raised beds along the fence they are about 1m high from the rest of the yard
Lol my backyard sounds the same walking through it. The Chickens are not happy.
