  1. I’m just starting to get scapes on mine, and I’m happy to see them. Lol! I didn’t get the cloves in the ground last fall, started them early indoors before finding out that they need the cold for the cloves to separate, and then booted them outside at the beginning of May for the -1 to -3 at night, in the hopes that it would give them enough of the cold. Lol!

  3. Just an FYI – Thanks to you and your videos I now have a very nice basket of GARLIC that I recently harvested! In October I'll have my own to plant instead of buying some from the store and hoping they'll grow. YEA & THANKS Jeff

  4. Great info right there, this year is my first year to trying to grow garlic. I have some purple garlic in atm,but I am in the middle of winter atm in Australia

  5. Im going to be moving to an area that is a lot cooler in the summer than where I live currently, so hopefully I will actually be able to grow crops like garlic, corn, strawberries and more.

  6. I harvested all my garlic today, unfortunately I mostly got small heads, some are even made only of a single clove, not sure if it's even called 'head' in this case but there are also some heads in proper size range.
Not bad for my first attempt at growing garlic, I think.

I tested five different types of garlic, only two of them grew into decent size and now that I know what to grow next year, I expect my next year harvest to be much better.

    Thanks for all the advice.

  7. Everybody loves a GOOD quickie! These are great and informative. I set 143 of my largest Music gloves last fall that I saved from my first garlic harvest. Harvested last years crop August 1st and 2/3 of my crop was larger that the seed I purchased. Living here on the East coast, NB i mulch to protect from the many freeze thaw cycles. All 143 sprouted, 1 glove double sprouted and I pulled it as it was stunted. Removed most of the scapes 2 weeks ago. I pulled 2 plants this week but was discouraged as the bulbs were very small. I may have mulched the plants too thick and this may have not have let the ground breath. The leaves are now yellowing and dying back. The plant growth has been better this year as so has the local weather. I'll know in about 2 weeks.

  8. I am a senior building a garden in a zone 5 suburban back yard. I built a fence to keep out rabbits put wood chips on pathways . I get compost from our municipality recycle facility and sift many wheelbarrow loads to improve my pure sand soil. Should my next step be to raise the beds with expensive wood or cover with plastic over hoops? I'm 70 years old but can still kinda kneel to weed. Cheers to another canuck

  9. I like to check on the bulbs when the plant starts to die back. Just remove the mulch and check the bulb. Make sure they don't split open. Still usable, but hard to clean. A couple of days early is better than a couple days too late. Learned this the hard way. Thanks for another great video Jeff.

  10. Hi I live in central California where summer temperatures are triple digits for weeks on end. I love hard neck garlic with strong garlic flavor. I only have container garden and would love to grow my own. Would love to have your thoughts on how and when to plant, keeping in mind mild winters. Please help
